(Minghui.org) A 60-year-old resident of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, is set to appear in the Hanyang District Court on November 19, 2024 for her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Xi Guoxiu was arrested at around 11 p.m. on October 24, 2023. More than ten plainclothes and uniformed officers from the Hanyang District Police Department and the Sixin Police Station broke into her home that night and confiscated her computer, cell phone, and other valuables.
The police took Ms. Xi to the Hanyang District Police Department for interrogation. They said someone found some Falun Gong brochures at a residential area and suspected she distributed them. While it was totally legal to spread information about Falun Gong, Ms. Xi did not pass out the materials at the said location. She wrote “the allegations of me distributing said materials were fabricated” in the interrogation records.
Ms. Xi was taken to the Wuhan City First Detention Center the next day and issued a formal arrest warrant on November 9, 2023. The Hanyang District Procuratorate received her case in mid-January 2024 and forwarded it to the Hanyang District Court on April 11. Judge Liu Xianbing scheduled her court date for November 19.
Past Persecution
Ms. Xi, a physician, used to suffer from severe gastroenteritis and no treatment helped. She lost hope in life and also became irritable. She often lashed out at her husband for no reason. After she took up Falun Gong in 1995, she completely recovered and became much calmer and kinder.
After the persecution began in 1999, her employer, the Hanyang Railway Central Hospital, took her to the Taojialing Brainwashing Center against her will. They kept her there for six months, during which they also suspended her pay. After she was released and resumed work, her hospital later sent her to the brainwashing center again and held her there for four months. Her pay was again suspended.
Ms. Xi was summoned to the hospital secretary Huang Shiqiang’s office one day in 2001. As soon as she arrived, about six community workers seized her and took her straight to the Hanyang Brainwashing Center.
In 2003, Ms. Xi’s employer displayed some posters smearing Falun Gong at the workplace. She tore them down and was arrested. After two weeks at a detention center, she was moved to a brainwashing center, where she was held for four months. She still held firm to her faith and was transferred to another detention facility in Wuchang District for another two months.
Ms. Xi was doing laundry at home one day in 2004 when several community workers broke in and took her to a brainwashing center.
More than ten agents raided the home of Ms. Li Xian’e, also a Falun Gong practitioner, at around 5 p.m. on July 12, 2016. They arrested her and five practitioners who were visiting her, including Ms. Xi.
Ms. Xi was later sentenced to two years in prison and served time at the Ezhou City Detention Center. She was released one year early, on July 12, 2017.
