(Minghui.org) A Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region resident was sentenced to 1.5 years with a 5,000-yuan fine on October 28, 2024 for her faith in Falun Gong.
This is the second time that Ms. Zhang Yuzhen has been sentenced for practicing Falun Gong, after the communist regime ordered the persecution of the spiritual discipline in 1999. She was previously given a 15-month term following an arrest on July 20, 2018.
Ms. Zhang’s latest arrest took place on February 28, 2024, after a hair salon worker reported her for placing Falun Gong informational materials in a bike basket in front of the salon. She was admitted to the Yinchuan City Detention Center the next day and issued a formal arrest warrant on March 13.
The Xixia District Court held a hearing on Ms. Zhang’s case on August 26, 2024. Her lawyer and daughter, who served as her family defender, entered a not guilty plea for her and demanded her acquittal. Ms. Zhang also testified in her own defense and maintained that she didn’t violate any law in practicing Falun Gong. The presiding judge, Xu Yingchun, convicted Ms. Zhang on October 28. She has appealed the verdict.
