(Minghui.org) Mr. Wu Qingyuan, 72, from Changchun City, Jilin Province, was admitted to the Gongzhuling Prison in September 2024 to serve a 5.5-year term for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Wu was arrested at his home on February 29, 2024, by officers from the Jingyue Boulevard Police Station. They took him and his wife, Ms. Li Ying, in her 70s, who also practices Falun Gong, to the police station for interrogation.
The police next drove the couple to the Changchun City Detention Center, which admitted Mr. Wu but refused to accept his wife after she failed the required physical examination. Ms. Li was released on bail.
The Kuancheng District Court later sentenced Mr. Wu to five and a half years with a 20,000-yuan fine. The details of the trial are unknown. Minghui.org learned in mid-November 2024 that Mr. Wu was transferred to prison in September 2024.
Mr. Wu previously suffered from pancreatitis and other health problems. His symptoms entirely disappeared after he began practicing Falun Gong in 1996. He has been repeatedly targeted since the persecution began in 1999. Prior to his latest arrest, he was given two forced labor terms, and his home was raided four times.
