(Minghui.org) Minghui.org previously reported the group arrest of 13 Falun Gong practitioners in Qingyuan County, Liaoning Province, in mid-July 2024 and the issuance of arrest warrants for six of them. This article provides some additional updates.
Mr. Wang Nanfang, 68; Mr. Zhou Shuyou; Mr. Wang Zexing, 56; Ms. Hu Fengju; and Ms. Hu Mingli, were arrested at around 5 a.m. on July 12, 2024. Ms. Li Junfei, 56, was arrested three days later. All six are now facing indictment after their arrests were approved by the Wanghui District Procuratorate. It was learned recently that the first five practitioners' cases were returned to the police on October 25 for further investigation. The police in turn resubmitted the cases to the same procuratorate at an unknown date.
The three male practitioners are being held in the Dashagou Detention Center in Qingyuan County, while the female practitioners are in the Nangou Detention Center in Fushun City. (Fushun oversees Qingyuan County.) Mr. Wang Zexing’s 83-year-old father was not allowed to visit him and died three days after his arrest. Mr. Wang’s mother is now the sole caregiver for his younger brother, who has remained bedridden since he was run over by a car ten years ago.
Mr. Liu Haitao, Mr. Wang Guozhong, Ms. Huang Yuping, Ms. Li Shuqin, and Ms. Lai Chunlian were also arrested on July 12, 2024. They are currently out on bail. All five were deposed by the Wanghua District Procuratorate in Fushun City on October 14, 2024. They were warned to not leave town.
A 12th Qingyuan resident, Mr. Li Defa, was also targeted during the July 12th police sweep. He was released hours later. A 13th practitioner, Mr. Wang Hongwei, a Qingyuan native in his 40s, was arrested in Dalian (the capital of Liaoning Province) that same day. His case status is unclear.
Additional Reports of Harassment
Six other Qingyuan practitioners were harassed on the phone or in-person on July 13 and 14, 2024. Ms. Liu Jinyan, Ms. Liu Liying, and Mr. Wang Yong received harassment calls from the police or community workers. Ms. Yu Xiaomei, Mr. Zhou Yuyi, and Ms. Qi Yunying were harassed at home. Those who harassed Ms. Qi, including officer Li Jun and women’s federation chair Song Wei, confiscated her Falun Gong books and other belongings before taking her to the village committee to be interrogated. She was forced to sign the list of confiscated items before being let go.
A few of the targeted practitioners were repeatedly persecuted over the years for their faith in Falun Gong. Mr. Wang Nanfang and Mr. Zhou were both sent to forced labor camps twice and brutally tortured. Ms. Hu was given 1.5 years of forced labor in 1999. Mr. Wang Hongwei was expelled from college in 2000 for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was given three years of forced labor in 2002 and sentenced to ten years in 2004.
