(Minghui.org) Shanghai Vice Mayor Hua Yuan arrived in Taiwan on December 16, 2024, to attend the Taipei Shanghai City Forum held the next day. Local Falun Dafa practitioners gathered outside the Regent Hotel where the Chinese delegation stayed. They held banners and called on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to stop persecuting Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong).
After 25 years, the CCP’s persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China continues. During 2022 and 2023, Falun Gong practitioners in Shanghai were persecuted by the CCP authorities for their belief in Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. At least 2 people died from the persecution, 14 people were illegally sentenced to prison, 42 people were detained, and 123 people were harassed—at least 181 people were persecuted. Other forms of persecution include 24/7 monitoring through facial recognition systems and withholding the victims’ pensions.
Falun Dafa practitioners held banners outside the hotel where the Chinese official delegation stayed on December 16, 2024. The banners worded “Falun Dafa Is Good,” “Stop the Persecution of Falun Gong,” and “The CCP Persecutes Falun Gong for 25 Years.”
Practitioners shouted “Falun Dafa is good,” and “Stop the persecution of Falun Gong” when the delegation’s motorcade left the hotel. Many passersby watched and talked with the practitioners to learn why they were there.
Falun Dafa practitioners have persistently held peaceful protest activities around the world. Through the protest at the Taipei Shanghai City Forum, they hope to help Chinese officials learn the truth and help stop the CCP’s brutal persecution.
Practitioners hold display boards and call for the persecution to end.
Cai Shou-jen, Secretary General of the Falun Dafa Association of Taiwan, said that through this event practitioners hoped to tell Chinese officials: “Falun Dafa is good, stop persecuting Falun Dafa immediately.” They hope the officials pay attention and bring their demands back to China. He said that Mr. Li Hongzhi, Falun Dafa’s founder, taught practitioners to follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and practice the five sets of exercises, which benefits practitioners and society. He called on the CCP to release all Falun Dafa practitioners.
Calling on CCP Officials to Release a Relative
Ms. Zhang has lived in Taiwan for nearly 30 years, and said her sister was recently illegally detained for the second time for practicing Falun Dafa. Ms. Zhang said that she and her sister both benefited from practicing Falun Dafa.
In addition to calling on the CCP authorities to immediately end the persecution, she also wanted to remind Taiwanese people that if they don’t stand up today, this persecution may come to Taiwan.
Ms. Li, who started practicing Falun Gong in 1997, said the atrocities of the CCP’s state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting were exposed. More than 430 million Chinese people have declared their withdrawal from the CCP and its affiliated organizations. Ms. Li pointed out that the CCP’s collapse is inevitable. She called on the Shanghai officials quit the CCP as soon as possible to ensure that they and their families are not held accountable for the its crimes.
Background
Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) was first introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in Changchun, China, in 1992. Its teachings are based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Millions of people who have embraced Falun Dafa’s teachings and exercises have experienced improved health and well-being.
The spiritual discipline is now practiced in over 100 countries and regions worldwide. Falun Dafa’s main book Zhuan Falun has been translated into more than 40 languages. Mr. Li Hongzhi and Falun Dafa received over 5,800 proclamations, awards, resolutions and letters of support from governments. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is cherished by many people around the world, but this belief is severely persecuted in China.
Minghui.org has confirmed the deaths of thousands of practitioners as a result of the persecution over the past 25 years. However, the actual number is believed to be much higher, due to the difficulty in getting information out of China. Countless practitioners have been imprisoned and tortured for their faith.
There is concrete evidence that the CCP sanctions the harvesting of organs from detained practitioners, who are murdered to supply China’s organ transplant industry.
