(Minghui.org) The Jilin Province Women’s Prison, located in Lanjia Township, Changchun City, has been used to jail female Falun Gong practitioners since the Chinese Communist Party launched the persecution of the ancient spiritual discipline in July 1999.

According to available information collected by Minghui.org, at least 29 Jilin practitioners have died as a result of abuse they suffered at the prison, and many more are being physically and verbally abused on a daily basis.

The prison management allows and authorizes prisoners to beat Falun Gong practitioners without consequences. To earn reduced sentences and other rewards, the prisoners often torture the practitioners in the attempt to force them to renounce their faith. They starve them, freeze them, beat them, deprive them of sleep, refuse to let them wash, and force them to sit on a small stool without moving for long periods of time.

The latest information obtained by the Minghui.org website shows that the prison authorities still torture practitioners. In April 2023 the management forces practitioners to manually make eyelash extensions, which is very labor-demanding work. If a practitioner fails to finish the designated amount of work, she is made to sit still on a small stool that night.

To not have leftovers after meals, the prison workers give out a lot of food to those who stand at the front of the line and they are punished if they can’t finish the food. Those in the back of the line are given little food and often remain hungry.

Ni Xiaohong is a guard who is very experienced in torturing the practitioners and make them renounce their faith. She occasionally goes to the eighth ward, where most of the practitioners are incarcerated and tortured, to assist in the persecution. She hired a former practitioner, who renounced her faith in exchange for release, to work in the eighth ward from April 17 to May 17 in 2023 to brainwash the steadfast practitioners. The practitioners were ordered to write statements defaming Falun Gong. If a practitioner did not write her report to the guards’ satisfaction, she was physically abused and had to continue writing the thought report until the guards were satisfied.

Ms. Jin Min, a resident of Jilin City, Jilin Province, was sentenced on August 28, 2022 to a six-year term for practicing Falun Gong. She was tortured so badly that she lost the ability to talk. A guard stabbed her mouth with a flashlight when giving her drugs, and accused her of pretending to be mute. Because she refused to sign the statements renouncing her faith, the inmates forced her to sit still on a small stool all day. At the time she was suffering from a severe skin disease, which made her itchy all over, and she was not allowed to seek treatment.

Ms. Jin was arrested on September 11, 2020 for telling a taxi driver about the communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong. Her family was finally allowed to visit her on March 22, 2023, two and a half years after her arrest. They requested she be released on medical parole because she had various medical conditions, but the request was denied. After one of her sisters exposed her persecution on the Minghui.org website, the prison authorities revoked the sister’s visitation right.

Ms. Song Yanqun, an English teacher from Shulan City, Jilin Province, remained a steadfast practitioner and refused to cooperate with the guards and renounce her faith. Several prisoners were ordered to watch her around the clock, and they forced her to sit still on a small stool for ten-plus hours every day. As a result, the flesh on her buttocks ruptured and became infected. The guard did not allow her to change her underwear. In winter time she was forbade from wearing socks to stay warm. A guard purposely stomped on her toes and poured freezing water on her.

Zheng Dan, an inmate who actively participated in torturing the practitioners, once pushed Ms. Song into a bathroom bare-footed, and poured cold water over her during winter time. Ms. Song could not stop trembling, and developed hypothermia as a result.

The tortures took a toll on Ms. Song’s health. Her hair turned gray and thin, and her back hunched. She had a hard time walking. Despite her suffering, she continued to tell the guards that Falun Gong was being wronged, and the guards threatened to put her under strict management.

She was released from Jilin Women's Prison on medical parole on January 20, 2014, almost at the end of her 12-year sentence. At the time she weighed about 66 pounds, and many of her organs were malfunctioning as a result of torture.
