(Minghui.org) A woman in Daxing’anling Prefecture, Heilongjiang Province, was admitted to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison on February 2, 2024, to serve a 4.5-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Hao Yuhong, 60, was arrested by Jiagedaqi District Police Department officers on September 13, 2023, for raising awareness of the persecution online. She was held in the Jiagedaqi District Detention Center. The Jiagedaqi District Court sentenced her in January 2024, but details about her indictment and trial aren’t clear.
Ms. Hao took up Falun Gong in May 1996. She credits the practice for turning her into a better person and improving her health. In October 1999, three months after the persecution started, she went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong, only to be arrested and taken back to Daxing’anling. Although she was released after a brief detention and paying a fine, the police arrested her again shortly after and held her in a brainwashing center. She was beaten and had injuries on her head when she refused to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong.
