(Minghui.org) After graduating from a university in Anhui Province with a Master’s degree, I followed my husband to his hometown in Shandong Province. When we graduated, the teacher with the school’s Academic Affairs Office told us to sign a form indicating whether or not we practiced Falun Gong. It was said that if we didn’t sign that we didn’t, we wouldn’t be issued a diploma. At that time, I only knew that CCTV had broadcast the so-called “self-immolation” incident. As a child, I had only read and listened to fairy tales and knew very little about cultivation, gods, or Buddhas. Although I didn’t know what Falun Gong was, I signed the paper anyway.
One day at work, a colleague gave me a CD and said something about Falun Gong. I was deeply poisoned by the Chinese Communist Party’s propaganda, so when I heard the words “Falun Gong,” I was terrified. I threw the CD away on my way home. Then one night, as I was sitting in front of our restaurant, an elderly neighbor started to chat with me. He was very kind. Then he started telling me about Falun Gong, and I became alarmed and didn’t want to hear anymore. He gave me a truth-clarifying pamphlet.
After I got home, out of curiosity, I read the pamphlet. I cried, though I was not sure why. Later, I watched the truth-clarification videos such as “False Fire” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance International Art Exhibition.” I also bought a copy of the book Zhuan Falun. I put it down after reading the first two lectures and did not finish it. Later, I found it difficult to finish the book for all kinds of reasons. After I started practicing Falun Dafa, I finally understood why. Master said:
“There is another thing about Fa-study. When it comes to some students’ Fa-study, it’s hard to say that they’re not diligent because they have read the book some, but you also can’t call them diligent because they haven’t finished reading even one book, unable to complete Zhuan Falun. I’m telling you not to take this situation lightly. Of special importance is when new students read the book for the first time: If you can’t finish reading it in its entirety, you will find that from now on you won’t have the time or opportunity to read it. Even when you have time you won’t remember to read it again. Why? Everyone has thought-karma, which is selfish and bad. When it finds that the Dafa you study is so virtuous and good, and that it [the thought-karma] will be eliminated, that karma will be afraid and try to stop you from studying and reading more. If you stop reading the book halfway through, that thought-karma will try to prevent you from having another opportunity to read or come in contact with the Dafa book. That’s the reason some people discover that after reading just a little part of the book, it’s hard to find another chance to learn the Fa. So once you decide to read the book for the first time, you must read it from beginning to end without letting up.” (Teachings at the First Conference in North America)
Five years later, my colleague and I were on a business trip. He showed me a video of the “Global Chinese New Year Gala” put out by New Tang Dynasty Television and Shen Yun Performing Arts Company. One of the lyrics that appeared several times was, “It is to save you.” That night, I had a dream. There was a flower in my heart that kept spinning and blooming. After a while, my colleague appeared, making a pillar-shaped gesture with his hands. There was a pillar of light between his palms. After a while, another person showed up and made the same gesture as my colleague. Then I woke up, startled.
The next day, my colleague wanted to show me a truth-clarification video that I’d already seen. I did bring up a few questions about Falun Gong and asked him to show me how to do the exercises. He showed me the five exercises. My impression was that the exercises looked very simple but were actually very profound. After I returned to my room, I sat there quietly with an inexplicable and happy feeling rising in my heart, and I cried.
On the train ride home, I told my colleague that our conversation the night before had had a deep impact on me, and I wanted to learn more about cultivation practice. So he gave me his copy of Zhuan Falun and asked me to finish reading it in one go. I started reading and remembered clearly that Master said, “If you hold various attachments and come to gain supernormal abilities, have your illnesses cured, listen to some theories, or come with some ill intentions, that will not work at all.” (Lecture One, Zhuan Falun)
I looked inside myself to make sure I did not have any of those attachments. When I finished reading the book, I felt that my whole body was light. All my initial misunderstandings and speculations about Falun Gong simply disappeared, just like the mystery was revealed. I was so excited. This was indeed a heavenly book!
Master taught us,
“Once they learn our Falun Dafa, they will understand at once many questions in life that they have wished to understand but could not answer. Perhaps along with their minds being elevated, they will become very excited—this is for sure.” (Lecture Eight, Zhuan Falun)
I know it is not easy to obtain the Fa, and I am one of the lucky ones. From then on, I have practiced Falun Gong.
