(Minghui.org) There are three wards in Beijing Women’s Prison. The persecution of Falun Gong practitioners serving time in the prison for their faith is especially severe in the third ward, where the practitioners are subjected to constant brainwashing, physical torture, and administration of toxic drugs through injection or force feeding.
In a typical torture session, the guards take a practitioner to a blind spot out of sight of the surveillance camera and pinch her in the areas on her body that are covered by clothing, so the injuries and bruises aren’t easily seen. Many practitioners were also denied restroom use when they refused to renounce Falun Gong and some developed urinary incontinence as a result.
The current warden of the prison is Xing Mei. The three assistant wardens are Zhang Haina, Shan Xiaoling, and Wu Jianhua. The current head of the third ward is Li Qian. Her two predecessors were Zhang Haina and Dong Xiaoqing. Guards in the third ward, including Liu Lixin, Li Yuanfang, Zheng Yumei, Shen Yanqiu, Wang Yinghua, Yang Xiaodong and Liu Jing, are active participants in the persecution.
Below are several practitioners’ accounts of torture several practitioners.
- Ms. Xu Na, 56, was arrested in July 2020 and sentenced to eight years on January 14, 2022. She was first transferred from the Dongcheng District Detention Center to the Tianhe Prison Dispatch Center on September 20, 2023, and then to the third ward in Beijing Women’s Prison around November 2023. She was soon removed from the third ward and her current whereabouts aren’t clear.
- Ms. Bian (first name unknown) went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was force-fed. The guards also tied her up and gave her toxic injections. Blood stains were seen all over her cell. She is now in a delirious state.
- Ms. Bu Jinxiang was also given toxic injections and she is in a delirious state as well.
- Ms. Zhao Liuji, 69, was arrested in 2018 and sentenced to three years in 2019. In a blind spot away from the surveillance camera, she was severely pinched all over her body. Her arms and legs were covered in bruises.
- Ms. Gong Ruiping, 58, was arrested in July 2021 and sentenced to 5.5 years by the Pinggu District Court on February 21, 2022. Because she refused to renounce Falun Gong, the guards deprived her of sleep and didn’t let her use the restroom. This was the second time that Ms. Gong was held in the same prison. She was previously sentenced to four years in 2001. Tian Fengqing, who was then head of the third ward, ordered the guards to keep her in solitary confinement and beat her. The guards added toxic drugs to her food for at least six months.
