(Minghui.org) A resident of Qishan County, Shaanxi Province stood trial on March 12, 2024 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Li Dongyin, 61, was arrested at around 3 p.m. on December 28, 2022, while she was visiting nearby Feng County in the same province, about 70 miles away from her home. The Feng County Police Department later released her on bail and submitted her case to the Feng County Procuratorate in the first half of 2023.
The Feng County Procuratorate in turn moved her case to the Jintai District Procuratorate in Baoji City, which oversees both Feng County and Qishan County.
Ms. Li’s two lawyers requested that she not be indicted, as she broke no law in practicing Falun Gong. The Jintai District Procuratorate still indicted her and forwarded her case to the Jintai District Court. Her lawyers proceeded to file complaints against the Feng County Police Department, the Jintai District Procuratorate, and the Feng County Procuratorate for persecuting her for her faith.
The Jintai District Court issued an order on October 18, 2023 to take Ms. Li back into custody. The Feng County Police Department seized her that day and took her to the Fufeng County Detention Center. Baoji City has jurisdiction over Fufeng County, as well.
Ms. Li stood trial on March 12, 2024. Her lawyers argued that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong and demanded her acquittal. She was transferred to the Qishan County Detention Center shortly after and is currently awaiting a verdict there.
