(Minghui.org) A 51-year-old resident of Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province was tortured while serving her second prison term for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Wang Jianhui, who used to work at the Daqing Oil Field General Hospital, was arrested on November 22, 2020, and sentenced to five years with a 30,000-yuan fine on June 3, 2021. She was admitted to Division 8 of the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison on January 7, 2022.
Division 8 and the strict management division are two divisions specifically used to torture steadfast Falun Gong practitioners. The current team captain Yue Xiufeng of Division 8 was a lead at the strict management division for 10 years before she was reassigned to Division 8 in 2018. She was heard bragging that she has 16 years of experience under her belt in handling Falun Gong practitioners.
Yue instructed inmates Liu Shufeng and Li Siping to monitor and torture Ms. Wang, who was heard screaming in pain multiple times.
This is not the first time that Ms. Wang has been targeted for her faith. She previously served a six-year term (2010-2016) in the same prison and also endured horrendous torture. Before that, she was given three years of forced labor in 2000, also for practicing Falun Gong. See the related reports for her past persecution and torture.
Below is what has been known so far about Ms. Wang’s torture at the hands of inmates Liu and Li during her latest prison term. Liu later revealed to Ms. Wang that team captain Yue and other guards saw every detail of her torture from the big surveillance monitors yet did not even ask the inmates to stop through the intercom. Without their “protection,” Liu said she and Li would not have dared to torture Ms. Wang.
April 13, 2023
At around 2 p.m. on April 13, 2023, Ms. Wang sat on the floor to do the Falun Gong sitting meditation in full lotus position (with her legs crossed on top of each other). Inmate Liu pulled apart her legs and stomped on her ankles and feet, which became so swollen that the swelling had still not gone in more than two months.
May 22, 2023
Ms. Wang was sitting on her bed in full lotus position at around 10 p.m. on May 22, 2023, when Liu came to stop her. She ignored Liu, who then slapped her in the face. Liu grabbed her hair and slammed her head against the wall more than ten times.
2-Hour Morning Torture Session on May 23, 2023
At around 7:30 a.m. on May 23, 2023, Ms. Wang had just sat down on her bed in full lotus position, when inmate Li ordered her to stop. She did not listen and Li pushed her down on the bed and dragged her to a bed corner. Liu then pressed her head hard on the metal headboard.
Ms. Wang screamed in pain and struggled to get away. Li had another inmate fetch a dirty towel used to wipe the toilet bowls and stuff it into Ms. Wang’s mouth. As it was a big towel, Li used much force to push it in, tearing both corners of Ms. Wang’s mouth and leaving two blood clots. The inside of her mouth was also torn and the towel was soaked with blood.
While Ms. Wang’s mouth remained stuffed, Li pinched her neck and pressed hard on the throat with her thumbs.
Li didn’t loosen her grip until she noticed Ms. Wang almost passed out. As soon as Ms. Wang felt a bit better, Li tightened her grip again. Ms. Wang again was dying and Li gave her another “break.” Li repeated this torture for more than half an hour until she had to use the restroom. She went into a rage upon returning to see Ms. Wang sitting on the bed in full lotus position. She pushed her down, with Ms. Wang’s back against the bed. Li then put her entire body weight on Ms. Wang’s still-crossed legs and did not get off until about one hour later when another inmate came into say that guard Xiao wanted to see Ms. Wang.
Ms. Wang complained to Xiao about Li and said, “Li Siping is too brutal. She tortured me so cruelly yet without leaving any external injuries.” Xiao said that this information was very useful, meaning that Ms. Wang had discovered a brutal hitter in Li.
Xiao also warned Ms. Wang, “The prison prohibits you from doing Falun Gong exercises. You did meditation and we must put a stop to it!”
Ms. Wang felt excruciating pain and walked with a limp after the two-hour morning torture session. Little did she know that a four-hour torture session would follow that afternoon.
4-Hour Afternoon Torture Session on May 23, 2023
At around 1:00 p.m. on May 23, 2023, Ms. Wang again sat in bed in the full lotus position and was yanked off the bed by Li. Her legs remained crossed on the ground and Li pushed her down. The back of her head hit the cold and hard floor tiles with a big thud. She immediately had a big bump. She struggled to sit up, but before she was able to cross her legs again, Li pushed her down one more time and stomped hard on her inner thigh to prevent her from sitting up.
Ms. Wang was in so much pain that she screamed. Li again had another inmate fetch the same towel used to wipe toilet bowls and stuffed it into her mouth, tearing open the wounds she had in the morning. The towel was again stained with blood.
Ms. Wang tried to sit up and Li immediately stomped hard on her inner thigh. She supported herself with both hands on the floor to stop falling. She closed her eyes as she did not want to see the devilish look on Li’s face.
In Division, 8, Falun Gong practitioners were not allowed to keep their eyes closed except during sleep. Li ordered Ms. Wang to open her eyes. She did not listen.
Li started prying open Ms. Wang’s eyelids with her hands. She also pressed hard on her pupils. As soon as Li removed her hands, Ms. Wang closed her eyes again.
Li pinched and twisted a little bit of flesh on the back of Ms. Wang’s neck. She moved from place to place all over the neck, all the while ordering Ms. Wang to open her eyes. Li tortured her like this for a long time, but Ms. Wang refused to open her eyes.
Li pushed Ms. Wang down and the back of her head again hit the ground and had another big bump. Li then stood on the top of her feet and twisted the flesh around (see image below). Ms. Wang kept her eyes closed.

Li intensified the torture and stood on Ms. Wang’s toes only, with her entire body weight. She then moved to stomp on each toe one by one.
Ms. Wang collapsed on the ground with her mouth still stuffed with the towel. Li did not stop the torture until 4 p.m. At that time, inmates Fan Xiumei and Zhang Yang came in to take Ms. Wang to the washroom for a cleanup. They helped Ms. Wang stand up and pulled out the towel in her mouth.
While cleansing her, Fan was startled as she saw the back of Ms. Wang’s neck covered with bruises with two purple bumps.
