(Minghui.org) The Minghui website received an update on a woman’s prison sentence in mid-April 2024. Ms. Cheng Laihua was actually sentenced to four years, not three years as previously reported in September 2023.
Ms. Cheng, in her 60s and from Yingtan City, Jiangxi Province, was arrested on July 8, 2023 after being reported for distributing flash drives containing Falun Gong information at a local railway station. Falun Gong is a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since July 1999.
The police took Ms. Cheng to the Jiaotong Police Station in Yuehu District, Yingtan City, before transferring her to the Yingtan City Detention Center.
The arresting officers also raided her home and submitted her case to the Guixi City Procuratorate less than two weeks later. The Guixi City Court convicted her on an unknown date. Guixi City is under the administration of Yingtan City.
Ms. Cheng was admitted to the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison as of the time of this report. This is the second time that she was sentenced for her faith. She was previously sentenced to four years in prison in 2014. See the related reports for details of her past persecution.
