(Minghui.org) An 81-year-old Guiyang City, Guizhou Province resident stood trial recently for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Tian Deyu, a retired employee of the Guiyang Power Company, was arrested at home on October 19, 2023, after the police spotted her distributing informational materials about Falun Gong on their surveillance cameras. She was held at the Sanjiang Detention Center.
Ms. Tian was tried by the Nanming District Court at an unknown date. She was represented by a court-appointed lawyer, who entered a not guilty plea for her.
This isn’t the first time that Ms. Tian has been targeted for her faith, which she credits for enabling her to recover from various ailments. She was previously arrested at home on November 1, 2016. The police raided her place and took away 5,000 yuan in bank notes that were printed with information about Falun Gong as a way to raise awareness about the persecution, given the tight censorship in China.
Ms. Tian was detained at the Nanming District Detention Center and denied family visits. The authorities didn’t allow her to attend her husband’s funeral after he passed away on May 18, 2017. She was later sentenced to three years and fined 3,000 yuan by the Nanming District Court.
