(Minghui.org) Five Falun Gong practitioners in Jieyang City, Guangdong Province, were arrested and their homes were raided on May 30, 2024. One of them also saw her daughter, son-in-law, and two grandsons, who do not practice Falun Gong, seized on the same day. Three of the practitioners and the said daughter are still detained.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline based on Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. It has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Of the five targeted practitioners, Ms. Wu Jingxia was arrested from her home on May 30, 2024, while the other four were arrested on the same day at Ms. Wu Fengyin’s home. Ms. Wu Jingjuan, 73, Ms. Lu Lifang, Mr. Wu Jian were visiting Ms. Wu Fengyin when the police broke in and arrested all four of them.
The police confiscated items with the phrases “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” printed on them from Ms. Wu Fengyin’s home. Ms. Wu Jingjuan was released that evening.
While searching Mr. Wu’s home, the police confiscated over 300 yuan in paper bills with messages about Falun Gong printed on them as a way to raise awareness of the persecution given the tight censorship in China. He was detained for 15 days and released.
After arresting Ms. Lu, the police raided her home that she shares with her daughter Yangyang (nickname) and Yangyang’s family from 5 p.m. to midnight. Yangyang’s computer and other personal items were confiscated. Yangyang, her husband, and their two sons were also taken to the police station for questioning. Yangyang’s husband and sons were released the next morning, but she was held in custody with her mother, even though Yangyang doesn’t practice Falun Gong herself.
Ms. Wu Jingxia, Ms. Wu Fengyin, Ms. Lu, and Yangyang have been held in the Jiedong District Detention Center for nearly three weeks. Their families are worried that the authorities will try to get them sentenced to prison.
Prior to her latest arrest, Ms. Wu Jingjuan was given two years at the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp in the early years of the persecution. She was arrested again at a grocery market on October 25, 2005, after plainclothes officers found Falun Gong materials on her person. She was sentenced to three years in prison by the Jiedong District Court in January 2006.
Mr. Wu’s wife, Ms. Xu Ruiping, also practices Falun Gong. She was arrested on February 25, 2016, and sentenced to ten years with a 100,000-yuan fine by the Rongcheng District Court on September 21, 2016. She is likely still serving time in the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison.
