(Minghui.org) A 77-year-old woman on bail was taken to a local procuratorate to sign her case file on May 7, 2024. Ms. Zou Ruizhu refused to comply because she did not break any law. The police then grabbed her hand and forcibly pressed her fingerprints on the document.
Ms. Zou Ruizhu, of Yongxing County, Hunan Province, was targeted because of her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. She was on her way to her daughter’s home at 11 a.m. on April 17, 2024, when she was intercepted by vice captain Zhang Yonghua from the Yongxing County Domestic Security Division.
Zhang took Ms. Zou to the Chengguan Police Station, where she was interrogated by deputy chief Huang Yong and his subordinate He Zhongkui.
Zhang, Huang, and He next went to Ms. Zou’s daughter’s home that afternoon and forced the younger woman to take them to her mother’s home. They raided Ms. Zou’s home after pressuring her daughter to open the door. They confiscated all her Falun Gong books, desktop computer, laptop and a portrait of Falun Gong’s founder. After that, they raided Ms. Zou’s son’s home.
Ms. Zou was moved to the Xiangyong Legal Education Center (a brainwashing center in disguise) later that day. After a round of interrogation there, the police drove her to the Chenzhou Police Department affiliated detention center. She was found to be unfit for detention after a required physical examination. The detention center firmly refused to admit her. The police finally drove her home past 1 a.m. on April 18, 2024. Her daughter was forced to pay a 2,000 yuan bail bond on her behalf.
The police returned to Ms. Zou’s home on May 7, 2024 and took her to the Yongxing County Procuratorate. She refused to sign her case file or have herself videotaped as no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong. Several officers then grabbed her hand to press her fingerprints on the document. They made nine attempts before obtaining a satisfactory fingerprint. Her case was then submitted to the procuratorate and she is now facing indictment for her faith in Falun Gong.
This is not the first time that Ms. Zou has been targeted for her faith, which she credits for curing her gallstones, gastric ulcers, gout, childbirth complications, and other diseases. She held firm to her faith after the persecution of Falun Gong began and was repeatedly targeted.
Officer Tang Zhonghua of the Xiangyong Police Station arrested Ms. Zou around 2 p.m. on October 18, 2009 as she and another practitioner were passing through the police station.
Ms. Zou was arrested again on July 23, 2014, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. She was taken to the Chengguan Police Station and interrogated.
