(Minghui.org) A Huludao City, Liaoning Province, resident was sentenced to two years on June 25, 2024 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Ling Haijie, in her 50s, was arrested past 9 a.m. on January 17, 2024, after she was reported for talking to three middle school students about Falun Gong near a local farmers’ market. The arresting officers from the Yangjiazhangzi Police Station raided her home and confiscated two laptops, one printer, Falun Gong books and other personal valuables. They then took her to their police station and later moved her to the Huludao City Detention Center.
The Lianshan District Procuratorate returned the case to the Yangjiazhangzi Police Department (which oversees the Yangjiazhangzi Police Station) on January 29, 2024 citing insufficient evidence. The police later resubmitted her case and she was eventually sentenced. The details of her indictment, trial, and sentencing remain to be investigated. It is unclear whether Ms. Ling is still held at the detention center at the time of this report.
