(Minghui.org) A 60-year-old resident of Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, has been detained for two months and counting for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual dsicipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Yao Aiying, a retired accountant, was arrested on June 9, 2024, while going through security checks at the Nanchang City Rail Station in Jiangxi Province. The railway police targeted her after finding paper currency and keepsakes with Falun Gong messages printed on them in her luggage. She has since been held at the Nanchang City First Detention Center.
This is not the first time that Ms. Yao has been targeted for her faith, which she credits with removing her migraine headaches and frozen shoulder and turning her into a more open-minded person.
After the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999, Ms. Yao was jailed three times for a total of 10 years and 9 months. She was sentenced to three years in 2003, four and a half years in October 2009, and three years and three months in July 2020. She was brutally tortured each time (see the related report for details).
Ms. Yao had bruises all over her body and was just skin and bones when she finished serving her third prison term in December 2022. The left side of her chest was severely injured, and she had difficulty breathing. Unable to bear the pressure, her husband divorced her years ago. Even as she struggled to care for herself and make a living, the local street committee still harassed her, trying to make her renounce Falun Gong.
