1. [Anping County, Hebei Province] Mr. Liu Jianheng Faces Trial
Mr. Li Jianheng, 47, was arrested by officers from the Chengguan Police Station on April 27, 2024, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. The Ping’an County Procuratorate approved his arrest on May 11, 2024 and moved his case to the Ping’an County Court on June 17, 2024. He was charged with “undermining law enforcement,” the standard pretext used to frame Falun Gong practitioners. Presiding judge Cheng Bochun denied his wife’s application to be his non-lawyer defender.
2. [Renqiu City, Hebei Province] Ms. Lyu Ya Harassed
Ms. Lyu Ya, in her 60s, was reported to the police for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in Gexinzhuang Village in April 2023. She was arrested and given 10 days in the Renqiu City Lockup. Her home was ransacked and Falun Gong books were confiscated.
The day after Ms. Lyu was released, she was harassed at home by officers from the Zhonghua Road Police Station and members of the residential committee. A surveillance camera was installed in the hallway of her apartment building. To avoid the harassment, Ms. Lyu moved to her hometown. Soon, officers from the Zhonghua Road Police Station called her husband and asked for her whereabouts. After confirming her new address, the police found her and forced her to sign some documents.
The police harassed Ms. Lyu again in early July 2024, the fourth time since the beginning of this year.
