(Minghui.org) A woman in Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province, has been detained incommunicado since her arrest on April 28, 2024, for talking to people about the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of her faith, Falun Gong.
Ms. Yang Songmei’s family was only notified to deliver clothes for her at the Zhaoyuan Lockup three days after her arrest. They haven’t received any update about her since and don’t know where she is currently detained.
This isn’t the first time that Ms. Yang, in her 60s, has been targeted for practicing Falun Gong. She was arrested in September 2009 and held at the Zhaoyuan Brainwashing Center. Guard Song Shaochang kicked her lower back, leaving her unable to move for days. When she recovered, officer Wang Haibo restrained her hands and feet to a metal chair, saying, “I’m straightening you up today.” Wang and several others whipped her and struck her with wooden sticks and threaded steel rods, especially on her head and neck. She was covered in bruises and again couldn’t move.
Ms. Yang was arrested again in August 2015 for talking to people about Falun Gong at a community fair. Luofeng Police Station officers detained her for seven days and confiscated the 50 yuan cash in her purse without giving her a recepit.
Ms. Yang was also arrested on August 1, 2023, for talking to people about Falun Gong at the Zhangxing Town Community Fair. She was detained for seven days by Zhangxing Town Police Station officers.
