(Minghui.org) A resident of Zhucheng City, Shandong Province, was sentenced to three years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Liu Shuhua and twelve other local Falun Gong practitioners were arrested on July 24, 2023. She was initially held at the local brainwashing center. As she refused to renounce Falun Gong as ordered, the police moved her to the Weifang City Detention Center on August 5, 2023. Weifang oversees Zhucheng.
The Zhucheng City Court heard Ms. Liu’s case on April 19, 2024. It was learned in late July 2024 that she was sentenced to three years.
Ms. Liu used to suffer from high blood pressure, heart disease, slipped disc, cervical bone spurs, migraine, and another type of headache which her doctor said was caused by hypopigmentation. Her medical expenses became a big burden for both her family and her employer, the Zhucheng Ceramic Factory, which covered her through its group health insurance.
However, no treatment helped. Ms. Liu was so weak that she had to take several breaks while walking just a very short distance. She eventually had to take early retirement when she was 42. In April 1998, a friend suggested that she give Falun Gong a try. She heeded the advice and got better. One month into her practice, all her symptoms completely disappeared.
After the persecution began in July 1999, Ms. Liu held firm to her faith because of her positive experience with Falun Gong. Prior to her latest ordeal, she was arrested on September 3, 2004 and held at a brainwashing center for an unknown amount of time.
