(Minghui.org) A 72-year-old man in Changchun City, Jilin Province, was sentenced to five and a half years following his arrest on February 29, 2024 for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Wu Qingyuan’s wife, in her 70s, was also seized on the same day after several officers, including Guan Xianlin (+86-17643111718) from the Jingyue Boulevard Police Station (+86-431-84519177, +86-431-84517710), broke into their home and confiscated their Falun Gong books and cash.
The police took the couple to the police station for interrogation before driving them to the Changchun City Detention Center. Mr. Wu was admitted to the detention center and his wife failed the required physical examination and was released on bail.
It is unclear when Mr. Wu was indicted, tried, or sentenced. He is currently held in a ward for ill inmates in the detention center. This is not the first time that he has been targeted for his faith, which he credits for curing his pancreatitis and other health problems. Prior to his latest arrest, he was given two forced labor terms, and his home was raided four other times.
