“Ms. Liang Lixin was held in cell 4203 of the Changchun City No. 4 Detention Center [in Jilin Province]. She appeared healthy but the guards forced her to take some unknown drugs. One day she vomited right after dinner and lost consciousness hours later. Two female doctors in white coats came, but they were unable to wake her up after doing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and using up several oxygen bags. Two men in military camouflage uniforms came and they also failed to revive her. She was carried away around midnight and the guards said they were taking her to a hospital for resuscitation. A few days later, the guards instructed the inmates assigned to monitor her to testify that she was ‘never drugged or abused.’”

Above is what an insider said about the last day Ms. Liang was alive. Ms. Liang, a resident of Tuquan County, Hinggan League, Inner Mongolia, died six days after she was arrested in March 2023 while visiting her daughter in Changchun City, Jilin Province.

The Guilin Road Police Station in Changchun City targeted Ms. Liang because they suspected her of putting up Falun Gong flyers on Guilin Road. Falun Gong is a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since July 1999.

Ms. Liang refused to cooperate with the police officers’ orders to write statements renouncing her faith in Falun Gong or sign the interrogation records. The police took her to the Jiutai Detention Center and later transferred her to the Changchun City No. 4 Detention Center, where she died. The police were in the process of building a case against her when she passed away.

The exact dates of Ms. Liang’s arrest and death are unclear. Her passing was preceded by decades of persecution for her faith. She served 2.5 years of forced labor and two prison terms totaling 10.5 years prior to her latest arrest. See the related report for details of her past persecution.

According to the insider, Ms. Liang was not the only Falun Gong practitioner drugged at the same detention center. Ms. Zhou Yafen, who was arrested in late August 2022, was also forced to take unknown pills every day. When she refused, the inmates assigned to watch her grabbed her hair and held her head to force-feed her the drugs. When she cried out in pain and they stuffed her mouth with dirty socks or the rags used to mop the floor. She was later given a prison term and transferred to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison on April 29, 2023. She was tortured for four straight days after she was admitted to prison. The guards didn’t stop until she passed out.
