(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhu Huiluan, 51, from Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, was secretly sentenced to three and a half years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Zhu was arrested at her rental place in Jieyang City (in the same province) on March 22, 2024. Her family weren’t told that she was illegelly sentenced until they were finally allowed to visit her in late December 2024.

Forced to Leave Home

After the persecution began in 1999, Ms. Zhu, a former bank employee, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested. She was sentenced to forced labor but did not serve it because of her poor health. When she returned home she faced constant harassment from local 610 Office agents and was also fired from her job.

In order to avoid the endless harassment, Ms. Zhu went into hiding in 2006. The 610 Office agents then began harassing her sister and their parents, demanding to know where she was. They threatened to cancel her household registration as if she was dead and bar her sister from applying for retirement benefits.

Ms. Zhu’s parents moved back to their hometown in Jieyang City, but the Shanwei police followed them there, and continued to harass them. Ms. Zhu’s father was so traumatized that he died around 2012.

Arrested and Secretly Sentenced

Around 4 p.m. on March 11, 2024, two plainclothes officers, one of them from the Shanwei City 610 Office and another from the Dongxing Police Station in Jieyang City, knocked on the door of Ms. Zhu’s rental place in Jieyang City. She didn’t respond and the police called in her landlord to open the door. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and took her to the Dongxing Police Station. The next day they moved her to the Jieyang City Detention Center. A guard called her mother on December 13, 2024 and said that she could visit her daughter on December 15.

Ms. Zhu’s mother visited her and was shocked to learn from her that she had been sentenced to 3.5 years by the Jiedong District Court and lost her appeal with the Jieyang City Intermediate Court soon afterwards. The lower court never notified her family of her trial or sentencing.
