(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Shuqin, 65, from Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, was sent to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on January 9, 2025 to serve a two-year term for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Zhang began practicing Falun Gong in July 1996. She was initially arrested on October 16, 2023, while talking to people about Falun Gong near a bank. She was released five days later, only to be arrested again on March 31, 2024. She was taken to the Jinzhou City Detention Center and convicted by the Linghai City Court at an unknown date.
Linghai, which is under the administration of Jinzhou, was recently designated to handle Falun Gong cases in the greater Jinzhou area. Minghui.org reported in March 2024 that the Linghai City Court sentenced 48 residents in Jinzhou and its subordinate cities/counties between 2022-2023 for practicing Falun Gong. Follow-up reports confirmed the conviction of at least 23 other local Falun Gong practitioners besides Ms. Zhang, who were sentenced by the same court in 2024 alone.
Below is a brief summary of the other convictions in 2024.
1-3. Three Beizhen City residents were sentenced on January 26, 2024: Mr. Cheng Haijun was given one year and eight months, Ms. Zhu Chengzhi was given one year and four months, and Mr. Xiao Zhongjiang was given six months. The three practitioners were arrested on September 10, 2023, by officers from the Datun Township Police Station.
4. Ms. Zhu Yanping from Linghai City was sentenced to one year around March 2024 and was sent to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on June 17. Her sentence stemmed from her arrest on December 14, 2023.
5. Ms. Wang Guixia from Jinzhou City, 80, was sentenced to one year and three months in early April 2024. She is currently incarcerated in the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison. Her sentence was preceded by her arrest on September 25, 2022. She was released on bail but taken back into custody at an unknown time.
6-7. Two practitioners in Yi County were sentenced on April 12, 2024. Mr. Qin Shuhai, 58, received three years and Ms. Liu Yulan two years. Mr. Qin was arrested on January 18, 2024. His wife, who was bedridden for years, was so traumatized that she died 24 days later. His 81-year-old mother had no one to take care of her.
8. Ms. Yang Xueping, from Linghai City, was sentenced to two years around April 2024. She was arrested on December 5, 2023 for talking to people about Falun Gong at a community fair and was sent to Liaoning Province Women’s Prison.
9-11. Three practitioners were sentenced around early May 2024. Mr. Zhang Deguo, a 74-year-old resident of Linghai City, was sentenced to one and a half years and is now serving time at the Jinzhou Prison. He was arrested on December 5, 2023, by officers from the Shishan Town Police Station. Mr. Zhang Zhan’an, around 67, Mr. Liang Shufa, 71, both from Jinzhou City, received 3.5 and 3 years, respectively. Mr. Zhang was also fined 7,000 yuan and Mr. Liang was fined 6,000 yuan. They were both sent to the Panjin Prison on April 1, 2024. They were arrested on August 31, 2023 and stood trial on December 4, 2023.
12. Ms. Zhang Xiuqin, of Jinzhou City, was sentenced to six years and fined 12,000 yuan on May 10, 2024. She was arrested on January 17, 2024 and was tried on April 11. Her father, who was nearly 90, was traumatized and died on July 18, 2024.
13. Ms. Zhou Yuzhen, 71 and of Jinzhou City, was sentenced to four and a half years around mid-September 2024. She was arrested in late April 2024. She previously served two prison terms.
14. Mr. Li Baohui, 54 and of Beizhen Town, was sentenced to two and a half years around late September 2024. He was arrested on July 1, 2023.
15. Ms. Nie Jing was sentenced to four and a half years on October 11, 2024. She was arrested on April 24, 2024.
16-17. Two practitioners were sentenced on November 14, 2024. Mr. Sun Jian and Ms. Zhang Yaming, both from Jinzhou City, received 5 and 2 years respectively. Mr. Sun was also fined 7,000 yuan and Ms. Zhang was fined 5,000 yuan. They were both arrested on April 13, 2024 and tried on October 15, 2024.
18-23. Six practitioners in Jinzhou City were sentenced on December 30, 2024. Mr. Wang Guiling, 69, was given 5 years and fined 7,000 yuan; Ms. Meng Chunying, 53, and Ms. Liu Yurong were both given 4.5 years and each were fined 6,000 yuan; Ms. Liu Jingju, 66, and Ms. Jing Suming, 74, were both given two years and each were fined 4,000 yuan. Mr. Wang Zhoushan, 53, was given 1.5 years and fined 3,000 yuan. The six practitioners were arrested between April 13 and 30, 2024 and were tried together on October 20, 2024.
