(Minghui.org) A resident of Ürümqi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region was sentenced to six years in January 2024 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Yan Xuehua’s wrongful conviction stemmed from her arrest in mid-July 2023, after the police discovered that she had posted videos about Falun Gong online using her cell phone. She was sentenced to six years in January 2024 and taken to the Ürümqi Women’s Prison at an unknown time.
This is not the first time that Ms. Yan has been targeted for her faith. She was arrested in early August 2000 after being reported for sharing Falun Gong informational materials with her colleagues. She was later released on bail. It was unclear whether she was prosecuted.
After another arrest on June 29, 2013, Ms. Yan was taken to the Nanshan Brainwashing Center and held there for an unknown amount of time.
Ms. Yan was arrested again on June 7, 2016 for distributing internet censorship circumvention software. She was held at the Liudaowan Detention Center for almost one month before being released on July 4 of that year.
