(Minghui.org) A Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, resident, was sentenced to five years and fined 10,000 yuan on January 13, 2025. This is the fourth time that Mr. Liao Zhijun has been sentenced for practicing Falun Gong since the Chinese communist regime ordered its persecution in 1999. He is appealing his latest verdict.

Mr. Liao Zhijun

Mr. Liao, around 53 and a former employee of the Chenzhou Train Inspection Office of Hengyang Depot, was arrested at home on August 1, 2024, by officers from the Suxian District Police Department and Nanta Police Station. His family recently confirmed his conviction, but details about his indictment, trial, and sentencing aren’t clear.

Since the onset of the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Mr. Liao has been repeatedly arrested for upholding his faith. Prior to his latest ordeal, he was arrested at least seven other times, resulting in a two-year term of forced labor and three prison terms totaling eleven and a half years.

Mr. Liao’s father, Mr. Liao Songlin, was also brutally persecuted for practicing Falun Gong. The older man was jailed three times for a total of ten years. He struggled with poor health after completing his third prison term on July 13, 2021. He died on October 14, 2022, at the age of 81. Unaware of his passing, local community workers visited his home again to harass him and attempted to verify his death by checking out his burial place.
