Mr. Wang Enchang, of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, passed away on April 21, 2018, after suffering years of health problems due to torture in custody in 2001. He was 82 years old.
Mr. Wang, formerly a technician with the Dalian railroad system, was given a two-year term at the Dalian Forced Labor Camp on June 3, 2001. He was subjected to sexual assault, shocked with electric batons, and beaten by rubber clubs. The guards also forced him to work for long hours without pay. Guard Wang Qi once said to him, “This is the law of China and I represent the government.”
As Mr. Wang was rolling on the ground due to the pain from the beating and electric shocks, the guards stepped on his private part for over ten minutes. They also hung a water bottle on his private part to humiliate and torture him. After that, Mr. Wang struggled to pass urine. He sometimes had to get up more than ten times per night. The severe water retention also caused him tremendous back pain.
He once fainted due to the beating, but the guards accused him of faking it. They handcuffed him and pulled his arms, and after four consecutive days of torture, his entire body was covered with bruises.
After being released, he struggled with the conditions for years, until he passed away in 2018.
