(Minghui.org) The Dehui City Court in Jilin Province sentenced four residents of Yushu City in the same province to prison on August 18, 2025 for raising awareness of the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of their faith, Falun Gong.
Mr. Du Changjiang, 48, Mr. Lyu Xianfeng, 61, and Mr. Fan Yunpeng, 53, were each given five and a half years. Mr. Yang Fujun, 57, received four and a half years. All four of them were also each fined 10,000 yuan. They are currently held in a local detention center.
Mr. Du and Mr. Yang were arrested on December 30, 2024, by officers from the Yushu City Domestic Security Office and its subordinate police stations. The police seized Mr. Fan the next day. They targeted the three practitioners after discovering them help people install satellite dishes to receive uncensored overseas news which exposed the persecution of Falun Gong.
Another group of officers from the Yushu City Domestic Security Office traveled to Baise City in Guangxi Province (over 2,000 miles away) and arrested Mr. Lyu there on December 30, 2024, while he was purchasing satellite dishes. They took him back to Yushu and put him in criminal detention.
The four practitioners were issued formal arrest warrants on January 23, 2025 and sentenced by the Dehui City Court on August 18. Both Dehui and Yushu are under the administration of the capital city of Changchun. Details of the practitioners’ trial are unknown.
Past Persecution
All four practitioners have been repeatedly targeted for their faith since the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999.
Mr. Lyu was arrested in August 2007. The Yushu City Court and sentenced to four years on February 1, 2008. While serving time at the Siping Prison, he was brutally tortured for refusing to renounce his faith. Guards Zhou Lijia and Yang Tiejun shocked him with two electric batons simultaneously. He foamed at the corners of his mouths and passed out. After he came to, the guards instructed six criminals to beat him. They stripped him naked and whipped him with v-belt. They even inserted chopsticks into his anus and brushed his lower back with wooden brushes. Inmate Gao Minglong claimed if they beat him to death, they’d not bear any responsibility.
Besides torture, Mr. Lyu was also forced to work up to 14 hours a day. After his term was up, he was taken straight to a brainwashing center and held for an unknown amount of time. He was arrested again on December 21, 2018 and detained for five days.
Mr. Fan distributed Falun Gong informational materials on March 26, 2019 and was recorded by a surveillance camera. The police followed him home. They raided his residence and took him to a lockup. On April 3 that year they moved him to a detention center. His case was submitted to the local procuratorate on April 6 and the Dehui City Court sentenced him to two and a half years and fined him 5,000 yuan on September 27, 2019.
Mr. Yang was detained between August and October 1999. He was given three one-year terms of forced labor, in 2001, 2005, and 2009, respectively. After another arrest on December 13, 2019, he was detained for five days.
Mr. Du was arrested on July 5, 2016 and detained for 15 days. After he was arrested on June 23, 2023 he was detained for 10 days.
