A 69-year-old woman in Dumeng County, Heilongjiang Province, died in the second half of 2015 after suffering years of persecution because she practices Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.

Ms. Zhu Wenqing took up Falun Gong in 1997 and soon recovered from her vertigo and seizures. She no longer had a bad temper and she became calm and kind. After the Chinese Communist Party launched a nationwide campaign against Falun Gong in July 1999, she held firm to her faith and was repeatedly targeted.

While in custody, Ms. Zhu endured brutal torture such as force-feeding, severe beatings, and electric shocks, resulting in severe damage to her health. She was unable to care for herself after her last arrest in June 2012 and died in 2015. Months after she died, three officers went to her home to harass her again. They didn’t show any sympathy upon learning of her death.

Below is a brief account of Ms. Zhu’s persecution.

Ms. Zhu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested on Tiananmen Square on December 28, 2000. She was taken to the Beijing Police Department. Because she refused to reveal her identity, she was transferred to the Miyun District Detention Center in Beijing. The police searched and photographed her, and fingerprinted her against her will. She was assigned a number and taken to the Miyun District Police Department. She again refused to answer questions and was slapped in the face. The police removed her winter coat and shoes before making her stand outside in the snow for half an hour. They also stuffed her mouth with socks and forced her to squat in a horse stance. Whenever she moved slightly, they stabbed her with a metal rod and grabbed her hair to kick and beat her.

The Dumeng County police in Heilongjiang Province picked Ms. Zhu up from Beijing on December 31, 2000 and drove her to the Linghai City Detention Center in Liaoning Province (it was unclear why they put her there instead of a facility in Heilongjiang Province).

Ms. Zhu went on a hunger strike the next day and was brutally force-fed. Multiple guards also beat her savagely with PVC pipes and shovel handles, and shocked her with electric batons. After she lost consciousness, they stomped on her abdomen, causing her uterus to prolapse and bleed profusely. She was rushed to the hospital on January 9, 2001. She was covered in black and purple bruises, and her thighs were covered in muscle knots.

Ms. Zhu never recovered from the torture-induced health complications, including the uterine prolapse and bleeding, and leg pain.

The Dumeng County police brought Ms. Zhu back to Heilongjiang Province on January 22, 2001 and put her in the Dumeng County Detention Center. Before they released her on March 28, 2001, Mu Junling, Wen Zhongge, Xu Yuru and others from the Dumeng County 610 Office forced her to pay 7,050 yuan to cover their travel cost to Beijing to bring her back.

After Ms. Zhu was released, her back and calves were still covered in bruises and her abdomen had visible heel marks of the guards’ shoes after the Linghai City Detention Center guards stomped on her.

The police kept harassing Ms. Zhu at home, sometimes four times a night. Her neighbors were also severely disturbed.

Ms. Zhu’s relative was arrested in 2006 for practicing Falun Gong. She accompanied the relative’s 17-year-old daughter to submit a complaint to the Mian County Police Department. The police arrested her on the spot. She had a stroke, heart disease and high blood pressure symptoms and was released. Her family took her to a hospital but deputy chief Yao Gang of the Dumeng County Police Department followed them and threatened to send her to a labor camp. A nurse stopped Yao but he had his officers harass Ms. Zhu’s family almost every day for one month.

Ms. Zhu was last arrested on June 18, 2012, while visiting a local Falun Gong practitioner. She was held at the Talaha Police Station for a few hours and released that night. The police harassed her at home frequently afterwards, especially around the CCP’s sensitive dates. Her health worsened and she was unable to care for herself. She died in the second half of 2015. Lu Wei and two other officers went to her home on December 2, 2015 to harass her again. They left when they were told she was dead.
