(Minghui.org) A woman in Cao County, Shandong Province was admitted to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison in mid-August 2025, to serve a four-year term handed down four years ago.
The prison sentence of Ms. Gao Menghua, around 75 and a retiree of the Cao County Food Bureau, stemmed from her arrest in March 2020, for distributing materials exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of her faith, Falun Gong. She was released on bail at an unknown time but was taken back into custody on June 30, 2020. Four officers from the Qinghe Police Station and the Caocheng Police Station took her to the Caocheng Police Station first before driving her to a hospital for a physical exam including blood tests. The arrest took place while she was in a different hospital caring for her husband in his 70s (who had his leg amputated) and her 100-year-old mother.
The police next took Ms. Gao to the Juancheng County Detention Center, where she was forced to give a blood sample and undergo another physical exam. Juancheng County and Cao County are both under the administration of Heze City.
The physical exam indicated that Ms. Gao had a severe heart condition (with a heart rate of around 150 beats per minute) and high blood pressure. She was denied admission to the detention center and sent back home at 10:00 that night.
The Cao County Court heard Ms. Gao’s case in June 2020 and she testified in her own defense. She was sentenced to four years in August 2021, but was allowed to postpone serving time, likely due to her health and the COVID-19 pandemic. Four years later in mid-August 2025, she was made to start serving her prison term at the Shandong Province Women’s Prison.
This is not the first time that Ms. Gao has been targeted for her faith. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in October 2000 and was given three years of forced labor at the Wangcun Women’s Labor Camp in Shandong Province. She developed severe illness symptoms and was released on parole.
After another arrest in October 2005, Ms. Gao was taken to the Cao County Detention Center, where she was brutally tortured and developed multiple medical conditions. She was secretly sentenced to four years in September 2006. The Shandong Province Women’s Prison declined to admit her three times due to her medical conditions. The deputy chief of the Cao County Police Department made a special trip to the prison and got her admitted on the fourth try.
