Letter from Seema Malhotra MP
After Stephen Doughty MP received a letter from his constituent Sangeeta Wadadekar regarding the CCP’s persecution and state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting, he submitted an inquiry to the Ministry of Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
Minister Seema Malhotra responded, “The environment for freedom of religion or belief in China is restrictive. Falun Gong practitioners are persecuted both at home and overseas. The UK Government is committed to promoting and protecting the right to freedom of religion or belief, and to defending this fundamental right internationally.
“We continue to monitor and review evidence relating to allegations of forced organ harvesting in China and maintain a dialogue with leading NGOs and international partners on this. The Government’s position remains that, if true, the practice of systematic, state-sponsored organ harvesting would constitute a serious violation of human rights.
“From the Prime Minister down, this Government has raised concerns about human rights with China during diplomatic engagement. We also coordinate efforts with our international partners to hold China to account for human rights violations.
“In the UK, the protection of individual’s rights, freedoms, and safety is this Government's absolute priority. FCDO officials have met members of the Falun Gong community, and I am grateful for your constituent’s suggestions of further action the Government can take.”
