(Minghui.org) As a major persecution tactic in the 26-year suppression of Falun Gong, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) incarcerates mentally healthy Falun Gong practitioners in psychiatric hospitals, prisons, detention centers, or brainwashing centers, where they are subjected to brutal torture and forced ingestion of psychiatric drugs.
The involuntary drug administration is mostly done through injection or forced-feeding, often accompanied with electric shocks or tying up the victim’s limbs in excruciating positions. The results are devastating: some practitioners lost their vision or hearing; some experienced intense, lasting headaches; others fell into a delirious state; some became completely incapacitated; and some lost their lives.
In this report, we present 28 cases in Sichuan Province where Falun Gong practitioners passed away as a result of forced drug administration and/or physical torture. Due to strict censorship in China, the information presented is believed to be the tip of the iceberg and the actual severity of the persecution is likely far more brutal and extensive than what has been reported.
Case 1: Mr. Tang Xiaocheng Dies After Detention at Pengzhou City Psychiatric Hospital
Mr. Tang Xiaocheng, of Pengzhou City, was arrested one night in May 2002 after being reported for putting up Falun Gong posters. He was beaten and taken to the Pengzhou City Psychiatric Hospital. He died in August 2002, two months after he was released from the hospital. He was 40.
Case 2: Ms. Huang Lisha Dies in the Qingyang District Hospital
Ms. Huang Lisha, a former human resource manager for the Yangcunpu Coal Mine in Emeishan City, was arrested in Chengdu City on August 22, 2002, while living in displacement to avoid the persecution. She was held in the Chengdu City Detention Center and force-fed after she held a hunger strike to protest.
Ms. Huang was transferred to the Qingyang District Hospital in Chengdu in early September 2002 and given continuous IV drips containing unknown drugs. She began to vomit blood and also had severe bleeding in her digestive system. She fell into a coma days later and died on October 17, 2002. The authorities cremated her body minutes later. She was 34.
Case 3: Ms. Hu Hongyue Dies in the Qingyang District Hospital
Ms. Hu Hongyue, 45, was an employee of Xindu Oil Pump Nozzle Factory in Sichuan Province. She went missing on September 28, 2002, and the police notified her workplace of her death in November 2002.
The police only showed a picture of Ms. Hu to her family members and her workplace and claimed that she had starved to death. Neither her family nor her employer were allowed to see the body, which was cremated against the family’s will on November 19, 2002.
An officer from the General Commander’s Office of the Chengdu Police Department commented about Ms. Hu’s death on November 23, 2002: “I cannot talk about this. I don’t want to be held responsible.”
Another practitioner, who was sent to the Qingyang District Hospital on October 15, 2002, wrote of her encounter with Ms. Hu in an article submitted to the Minghui website:
“Six days after I arrived there, two more practitioners were brought in on October 21. They were Ms. Hu Hongyue and Ms. Zhang Yaling from Xindu Oil Pump Nozzle Factory. Although the officers did not allow us to talk to each other, we managed to exchange a few words.
“Both of them were arrested on a bus and had been on a hunger strike for over 30 days, to protest the illegal detention. The hunger strike continued after they arrived there. The doctors hooked them up to intravenous injections every day, which caused them to urinate excessively. But the guards did not unlock their foot shackles, rendering them with no choice but to urinate in bed. A nurse, influenced by the hateful propaganda from the CCP, reprimanded them severely. The guards also humiliated them and beat them. As time continued, the nurse no longer replaced their bedsheets once a week as scheduled. They had to sleep in beds that were filthy and wet.
“By early November, they could not speak normally and often repeatedly asked, ‘What’s going on? Why are we here?’ Their memories were deteriorating. It was evident that they had been subjected to psychiatric abuse.
“Even under that condition, the Xindu police did not release them. Instead, they were each given an 18-month labor camp term. While holding the detention notice in their hands, however, they could not read it, nor did they know what it was about.
“After over 20 days in the hospital, as a result of the drugging, Ms. Hu died on the morning of November 12, after struggling the entire night. When her body was carried away, she left a blood spot over 20 centimeters wide.”

Torture reenactment: handcuffed behind the back
After Ms. Meng was released in November 2021, she published an article about her ordeal on the Minghui website on January 21, 2002. After finding out about it, the police ministry – through the Sichuan Province administration – ordered her workplace to monitor her closely. As a result, Ms. Meng was held at the Chengdu Steel Plant for a period of time, without being allowed to go home at night.
Ms. Meng was sent to the Tangchang Brainwashing Center on April 24, 2002. She was beaten and kicked to the point that she could no longer stand, due to injuries to her spine and tailbone. After falling into critical condition, Ms. Meng was sent back to her workplace, where she was forcibly injected with nerve-damaging drugs.
Although nearly paralyzed, Ms. Meng was able to read Falun Gong books and do the exercises, and was eventually able to stand up without medication. She was later forced to live away from home to avoid further persecution.
The police arrested Ms. Meng on November 19, 2003, and the detention center guards often took her to the 201 Military Hospital for routine injections of nerve-damaging drugs, including diazepam and chlorpromazine.
After Ms. Meng explained what Falun Gong was to the doctors, they stopped administering the drugs to her. She was then taken to Jintang First Hospital to continue the forced injections.
Ms. Meng’s family requested her release, but an officer from the Chengdu 610 Office refused. “We won’t release her even if she dies here,” he said.

Two days later, the police continued to give him tea and Mr. Xiao experienced the same symptoms. In such a condition, he signed more statements, according to police orders.

The local social security office also suspended Mr. Chen’s pension after he was sentenced in September 2004. They never reinstated his pension. The lack of income made Mr. Chen’s life even harder after his prison release. He died on January 31, 2022.
