(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old woman in Jiexi County, Guangdong Province, was admitted to the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison in August 2025 to serve a five-year term for her faith in Falun Gong.

Ms. Li Meihong was arrested on May 13, 2024, for distributing Falun Gong informational materials in Hepo Town. Officers from the Hepo Town Police Station took her to the Jieyang City Detention Center. Jieyang City oversees Jiexi County.

The Jiedong District Court in Jieyang City tried Ms. Li in February 2025 and sentenced her to five years. She was admitted to prison in August 2025. The case status of Ms. Hong Xirong, a practitioner who was arrested with Ms. Li on May 13, remains unknown.

This is the second time that Ms. Li, born in April 1960, has been jailed for her faith, which she credits with giving her the strength to care for her mentally ill husband and elderly father-in-law.

Ms. Li was previously arrested on August 12, 2014, by officers from the Jieyang City Domestic Security Office and the Hepo Town Police Station. They confiscated her Falun Gong books, three computers, several printers, one CD burner, and other valuables worth a total of about 40,000 yuan.

The Jiexi County Procuratorate issued a formal arrest warrant for Ms. Li on September 17, 2014. She stood trial at the Jiexi County Court on March 16, 2015. Her lawyer Mr. Liu Zhengqing defended her innocence in practicing and spreading information about Falun Gong. Presiding judge Ouyang Liping kept interrupting the lawyer and later sentenced Ms. Li to seven years.

Practitioners Mr. Liu Shaopen and Ms. Wu Shuqin, who were tried with her, were also convicted. Mr. Liu was given four years and Ms. Wu, three years. Judge Zhang Benzhen, clerk Zou Li, and an unnamed prosecutor signed the practitioners’ verdicts.
