(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old woman in Jinchang City, Gansu Province, was admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison on November 20, 2025, to serve a 14-month term for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. He Bingying was arrested on April 23, 2025, while visiting her daughter’s family in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Several officers from the Nanling Police Station broke into her daughter’s home that morning and confiscated a large number of personal belongings.
The police gave Ms. He 15 days of administrative detention at a local lockup. They ordered her to write statements renouncing Falun Gong but she refused to comply. She was transferred to a detention center on the morning of May 8, 2025 without notifying her family as required by law.
Ms. He was secretly tried and sentenced to one year and two months in prison. It is unclear which procuratorate and court were involved in her prosecution. She was admitted to prison on November 20, 2025.
This is not the first time that Ms. He has been targeted for her faith. Both she and her husband, Mr. Wei Anyue, a truck driver, took up Falun Gong in 1997. After practicing, Mr. Wei had recovered from injuries he sustained from a work accident eight years prior, and regained feeling in the right side of his body. Ms. He also became healthy again.
After the persecution began in 1999, the couple was repeatedly targeted for holding firm to their faith. Mr. Wei was fired from his job in 2000 and his family was also evicted from his workplace-sponsored housing unit. Ms. He served two years of forced labor between 2000 and 2002. The couple were both arrested in December 2003 and convicted in 2004, with Ms. He given 7 years and Mr. Wei 10 years. Their daughter had to drop out of school with both parents in jail.
Both Ms. Wei and Mr. He were brutally tortured while held in the Gansu Province Women’s Prison and the Lanzhou Prison, respectively. Ms. He developed severe neurasthenia and heart disease and remained bedridden for over a year. She was released ahead of time on February 9, 2009. Her husband served the full 10-year term and was unrecognizable due to torture when he was released on December 7, 2013.
Ms. He’s mother, Ms. Gong Yulian, also a Falun Gong practitioner, died in December 2010 after repeated persecution. See the related reports for the family’s ordeal.
