(Minghui.org) Ms. Hao Shuping, 71, in Tangshan City, Hebei Province, was recently sentenced to three and a half years because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Hao was arrested on July 8, 2025, for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was taken to the Tangshan City First Detention Center in the afternoon and issued a formal arrest warrant on July 20. The police submitted her case to the Zunhua City Procuratorate.
Ms. Hao was tried by the Zunhua City Court on October 29. The prosecution evidence included her past arrests for upholding her faith. The judge sentenced her to three and a half years on December 12. She has appealed the verdict.
Ms. Hao, a retiree who worked at the Tangshan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Factory, took up Falun Gong in May 1994. Since the onset of the persecution in 1999, she has been arrested, harassed or followed countless times.
Her first arrest was on September 6, 2001, after she was reported for distributing Falun Gong materials. The local TV station video-recorded her and produced fake news to slander her and Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home the next day and took her to the Tangshan City First Detention Center. She was forced to work without pay. As she refused to renounce Falun Gong, she was forced to stand for days on end and was deprived of sleep. The guards and inmates also beat her. She later developed a severe medical condition and was released.
Ms. Hao was arrested again on October 28, 2014, when she and another practitioner went to the local police station to demand the release of two local practitioners. During her 15-day detention, the police handcuffed her behind the back, pushed her head down to touch her toes and forced her to sit in a metal chair for long hours.
Ms. Hao was arrested another time on April 5, 2024, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. While she was released later that day, the police harassed her at home on June 10, 2024. She was arrested again on September 25, 2024, for talking to people about Falun Gong.
Two plainclothes officers followed Ms. Hao (exact time unknown), snatched her keys when she came home and ransacked her place.
