Brad Noval, the managing director of a financial services company, saw Shen Yun with his family in San Jose on December 27.

He said this was a surprise for his mother-in-law. “This was my dear mother-in-law’s wish, so I gave this to her for Christmas. We rarely get the chance to have the whole family get together like this. I’m very glad to be able to bring my family to enjoy such a beautiful performance today,” he said.

“The Beauty Makes You Cry”

Meagan Rose Olvera Brigham (Screenshot courtesy The Epoch Times)

Megan Rose Olvera Brigham, Ms. Texas Legacy Queen 2023, saw Shen Yun with her husband on December 27 in Houston. The couple had wanted to see the performance for the past two years and was delighted to finally have the opportunity.

“It was an honor to be a part of a performance that is so rich in culture, and it opened my eyes to how advanced and how historical [Chinese] culture is. Performing it with such emotion, such grace—it was beautiful,” Ms. Brigham said.

“It brought out my inner child, and it made me cry on multiple occasions because it was so beautiful and so amazing to see. The beauty makes you cry because it’s so peaceful. It’s just so glorious to watch,” she said.

Ms. Brigham was especially moved by the spiritual element of the performance. It spoke to her “on a level beyond earthly understanding.”

“It brought out a sense of enlightenment and a sense of you wanting everyone to see the show. If [people] have not seen it, I highly recommend [they] come out and see it,” she urged.

“Shen Yun, for me, just means the beauty of life. It’s so rich in its expression. It’s beyond what you would imagine a performance to actually be. It’s just so beautiful and so enlightening and so informative in ways that are very hard to put into words,” she said.

Ms. Brigham also enjoyed the story-dance that conveyed the traditional belief that if people are willing to uphold moral values and treat each other with kindness, the divine will aid us in times of trouble.

“It was a very enlightening and beautiful thing to see a higher power come down and protect humankind from natural disaster. It was just beautiful and divine to see the belief system behind it—the entity, the power that we descended from actually came down and protected its people.”

What she will take home from the evening, she said, is “the hope of a beautiful life and future, and that beauty blooms from within.”

“The purity from within came out in such a beautiful, transformative way. It’s just an amazing thing to see and I’d never, in my 32 years of living, believe I would ever see such a beautiful performance and be touched the way that I was tonight—in such a beautiful, magnificent way,” she said.

Health and life coach Mark Sullivan and his wife saw Shen Yun in Jacksonville, Florida, on December 27.

“The inner strength supports the outer strength,” he said, speaking of the retelling of a Chinese legend by Shen Yun that made him tear up. “There’s such a discipline and a pride in all the performances.”

He had seen Shen Yun advertisements for years, and only now did he make it to the theater. He said that Shen Yun gives him hope that the young people seeing the performance will be inspired by the dancers’ dedication to their art.

“I’m sure that helps. The youth of today are so lost in identity,” he said. “[That inspiration is] a great thing.”

“Its Artistry Has Reached the Highest Level”

Michelle He (Screenshot courtesy The Epoch Times)

Michelle He, co-founder and chief academic officer of To The Top Education Group, saw Shen Yun in Houston on December 27. This was her second time seeing Shen Yun.

“Stunning!” she said. “I especially like China’s traditional culture and history. I think Shen Yun has presented this culture to the audience in the most beautiful way. Its artistry has reached the highest level.”

“Highest Level of Professionalism”

Adriano Naderi (Screenshot courtesy The Epoch Times)

Company president Adriano Naderi saw Shen Yun in San Jose on December 28. He had seen Shen Yun before and also plans to attend another performance next week when the artists visit San Francisco.

What keeps Mr. Naderi going back again and again, he said, is “the colors and the music and the dance and the 5,000 years of culture, and also understanding what has happened and what’s going on now.”

“The beauty of the culture should be recognized, and what we are seeing is the true story [squeezed into] the short period of time of Shen Yun’s [performance.] This is not only historical, it’s also educational as well.”

Mr. Naderi said the dancers’ skills were outstanding. “I’m sure they are the highest-level professionals across the world,” he said. “The dancing and the color and the costumes are so amazing.”

Mr. Naderi was especially moved by the story raising awareness about the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of Falun Dafa.

“I really love the one with the mother and the son—they’re fighting for freedom,” he said. “[The Chinese regime] should allow Falun Gong to be recognized across the nation... to practice. It’s emotional, and it’s based on a true story. I know we are here seeing it at the performing arts, but it’s a reality.”

Mr. Naderi enjoyed the song by Shen Yun’s bel canto singer and the message he conveyed. “Oh my God, that individual has a beautiful voice, and the lady who’s playing the piano is fantastic,” he said.

“The gentleman has a beautiful voice, and it’s going to the human hearts, especially the meaning which I was reading on the screen. The [lyrics are] so amazing, and it’s back again to say that Falun Dafa should be allowed [in China.]”

Finally, Mr. Naderi expressed his well-wishes to the performers and encouraged them to continue their mission and spread “this message across the world.”

“Personally, and on behalf of humanity, [their efforts are] very, very appreciated—whatever they do, they do at the highest level of professionalism. Good luck to them,” he said

“There is a lot of harmony, a lot of kindness, a lot of gentleness, and a lot of enthusiasm, too, because everything is done with passion. You can feel that Shen Yun is imbued with great creativity, professionalism, and passion,” she said.

“I felt this connection with God, because the show also talks about God. God who came to Earth, God who is among us, God who is already spreading among us in the world. And I am a believer, so it touched me,” Ms. Dziabas said.

“Very Profound”

Charles-Éric de Saint-Germain, a philosophy professor, and his wife, Nathalia Goncharova, saw Shen Yun in Amnéville on December 19.

He described Shen Yun as a performance that “one has to see at least once in their lifetime.”

“The dancing was gorgeous. The costumes were exquisite. But the more important thing was the spirituality. The values conveyed by the performance – Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance – were very profound,” he said.

In order to learn more about Falun Gong, Nathalia purchased a copy of Zhuan Falun. “I want to better understand the origins of these philosophical ideas,” she said.
