“Much More Than Just What Meets the Eye”

Television personality, author, and psychic Craig Hamilton-Parker at the Shen Yun performance in Bournemouth on February 12 (NTD Television)

British television personality, author, and psychic Craig Hamilton-Parker saw Shen Yun in Bournemouth on February 12. He said there is something very deep about the performance.

“The energy that’s in this whole dance and this performance is much more than just what meets the eye,” he said. “Behind it, there’s the energy, the flow, of what I suppose you can call chi, or prana in India.”

“The energy force that’s being expressed here in a beautiful way, goes much, much deeper than what you just see in the dance, because this is like a cosmic dance as far as I’m concerned.

“I couldn’t take my eyes off it for a moment. You know, normally when one watches a performance of some sort, sooner or later, you start to feel a bit tired with it. But no, it energizes you.

“And the actual energy of the dancers, the visual feast of the beautiful choices of colors, the clever use of a background that’s animated and becomes part of the show, absolutely amazing. So it’s captivating on so many levels, both as entertainment and as a subtle spiritual message.

“The stories of working towards enlightenment and awakening the divine within people, I thought it was a lovely way of putting it. And I wish each culture of the world could find its heart like that. China needs to find its heart like that. China needs to be able to find its past inspiration that we can find from its history. And so too, here in the West, and so too, in each country. We need to get back to the roots of what makes us a people. And that often comes through art, and through art we reach out to spirituality.

“I feel we are on the threshold of a new era. They say, ‘The darkness comes before the dawn,’ and my feeling is that we have been through a very dark age of deep materialism.

“When the great age of enlightenment comes, it doesn’t come as a great beaming light. It comes with lots of little lights waking up one at a time around the world. And this is one of those lights that reaches many people.

“I feel that this is part of that process of awakening,” Mr. Hamilton-Parker said.

To the dancers, Mr. Hamilton-Parker had this message, “Absolutely beautifully done. That’s more than just art, that’s spirit.”

“Very Touching”

Enzo Selvaggi and his daughter Vittoria at the Shen Yun performance in Springfield, Missouri, on February 11 (The Epoch Times)

Enzo Selvaggi, art director at the sacred art restoration firm Heritage Liturgical, and his 7-year-old daughter Vittoria saw Shen Yun in Springfield, Missouri, on February 11.

“Even Johannes Bach [said] that all art is ultimately for God, right? Because it comes from him. We’re rooted in it. And so to express anything in an artistic way is really to tap into our roots as human beings,” Mr. Selvaggi said.

“The modern age turns us into numbers, turns us into machines—wants to quantify us. But art is the exact opposite of that because it’s not about quantity, it’s not about what we output. It’s about the fundamental value and dignity of the human being. So the art, when it’s expressed authentically in a traditional fashion like this, really speaks to our inherent value as human beings,” Mr. Selvaggi said.

“I was [asking] my daughter here if she was noticing how they were telling stories without saying anything; that through gesture, you’re really able to tell a story. So there’s a humanity to that,” Mr. Selvaggi said.

Regarding the dance story about the present-day tragedy of organ harvesting from Falun Dafa practitioners in China, he said, “Very touching. The one that really moved me was [‘Unprecedented Crime’]... That really happens. So that, to me, was a very poignant and touching performance.”

Tracey Boyd, the principal of a dance school and a former professional ballet dancer, saw Shen Yun in Melbourne on February 16.

“My impression was that it was very uplifting, deeply beautiful, had the most beautiful spiritual message attached,” Ms. Boyd said.

“The orchestra was just exquisite. The costumes, the colors, the dancing. The beautiful technique, particularly the upper body of the technique was just so expressive and strong, and beautiful. The lightness of the dancers was just exquisite. It was wonderful. I loved it.

“I thought all the storylines were absolutely gorgeous. They were either deeply beautiful or they were hilarious. But they all had an underlying message of goodness, to trust in the goodness of yourself,” she said.
