A 65-year-old resident of Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province never recovered from the health damage he sustained during an eight-year prison term for his faith in Falun Gong. He died on February 14, 2022.
Mr. Zhang Xingguo was last arrested in 2008 and sentenced to eight years in Daqing Prison. After he was released in 2016, he was fired from his job and later deprived of retirement benefits. In his final years, he often felt bloated in his stomach and struggled to fall asleep. He passed six years later.
Prior to his latest prison sentence, he served a one-year forced labor term (July 2000 – July 2001) and was given a three-year prison term following an arrest in November 2001. He was released on parole while serving the three-year term and went into hiding to avoid being taken back to prison. See the related report for his own account of his suffering.
