(Minghui.org) Mr. Pan Gang, 67, from Nong’an County, Jilin Province, who is serving a four-year term for practicing Falun Gong has been denied medical parole, even after he was hospitalized. The prison authorities said they wouldn’t release him as long as he refused to renounce Falun Gong.
Mr. Pan Gang, a former tax bureau worker, was arrested on April 14, 2023 while walking on the street. The police didn’t inform his family of his arrest. When they went to the local police station to inquire about his case, the police refused to provide any information.
Mr. Pan’s family later found out that he was held at the Nong’an County Detention Center. They went to visit him in May 2023, but were not allowed to see him. They didn’t receive any subsequent updates about his case until the morning of January 9, 2024, when the detention center called to say that Mr. Pan was transferred to the Jilin Province Prison to serve a four-year term.
Mr. Pan’s family received another call from the prison in August 2024 and was asked to go there. When they arrived, they were saddened to see their loved one was reduced to skin and bones. He also had urinary incontinence. Upon returning home, his family mailed him diapers.
The prison called Mr. Pan’s son on January 23, 2025 and said he was hospitalized and that he had both bowel and bladder incontinence. The son asked how to apply for medical parole, but a prison guard said the authorities would reject it or take a long time to approve it, because he refused to renounce Falun Gong.
Prior to his latest sentence, Mr. Pan served three labor camp terms and a prison term for not renouncing his faith. He also had his salary suspended in 2001, although he was never officially fired by the tax bureau.
