(Minghui.org) Shen Yun Performing Arts has concluded its tour of the UK that began in early 2025. There were 51 sold-out shows that received great reviews. During performances in Woking and Llandudno, however, the organizers and theaters received emails threatening terrorist attacks in the theaters. The theaters promptly notified the police, who strengthened security measures at once and initiated strict security checks to ensure the shows ran smoothly.

The British government took these threats seriously, and the Prime Minister’s office swiftly directed the foreign affairs and related departments to issue a response. Many Members of Parliament asked the government to act promptly to handle the matter during the weekly parliamentary question session.

Dan Jarvis, Security Minister

In a letter dated March 5, 2025, replying to a Member of Parliament, Dan Jarvis wrote: “Thank you for your email of 19 February to the Home Secretary on behalf of your constituent, regarding threats made towards venues hosting Shen Yun performances in Woking and Llandudno. I am replying as the Security Minister.

“Firstly, l would like to echo the concerns of the constituent. Threats to physically target venues and individuals are reprehensible and are an affront to the freedoms and security we all enjoy in the UK. These incidents were reported to the police by the venues, and I can assure you that both police forces have undertaken an assessment of the incidents in the appropriate way. As this is now a police matter and all forces, including Surrey and North Wales, are operationally independent of Government, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further on the specifics of each case.

“In the UK, we are firmly committed to promoting and protecting the right to freedom of religion or belief and this includes promoting and protecting the rights of performance groups, such as Shen Yun, and their audiences.”

“Any attempt to intimidate, harass or harm individuals or communities in the UK will not be tolerated. We continually assess potential threats in the UK, and take protection of individuals’ rights, freedoms, and safety very seriously. Through the work of our police and intelligence services, we are committed in tackling such threats. If any of your constituents have concerns for their safety or believe a crime has been committed, I would advise them to contact their local police force.

“The UK Government also champions freedom of religion and belief for all abroad. We work to uphold the right to freedom of religion or belief through our position at the UN, G7 and other multilateral fora, and through bilateral engagement. For example, recently the Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary and Chancellor all raised the topic of human rights with their counterparts President Xi, Foreign Minister Wang and Vice Premier He respectively.

“I hope this provides reassurance to you and your constituent that the Government takes the safety and security of the Shen Yun performers and their audience very seriously.”
