(Minghui.org) While recently studying the Fa, I realized that ordinary human notions, especially those formed from years of scientific work, were obstructing people from obtaining the Fa. They can also hinder the cultivation of practitioners and, hence, their ability to help Master save people.
Master said:
“What I’ve told you is that everyone in the society of ordinary people will acquire many, many notions in his mind after birth and absorb 'knowledge' from the false realities of ordinary people’s society, which delude him even worse here. The many notions and set ideas formed in your mind are all factors that block your gaining the Fa. Aren’t those doubts that arise in your mind caused by your assessing the Fa with what you’ve learned from ordinary people’s realities? Isn’t that how those doubts surfaced? Definitely. In other words, you are assessing the Fa by using notions formed from ordinary human knowledge and ordinary human thoughts. Aren’t ordinary human beings at the lowest level? Aren’t ordinary people lost in illusion? What can they possibly have that can be compared to the truth of the universe? Nothing.” (“Teachings at the Conference in Switzerland”)
I was introduced to Dafa in 1996 but did not take up the practice until early 1998. Why? I had an idea about the universe and believed that it was complicated and not like what was explained in Zhuan Falun. Also, I read a lot of books on supernormal abilities and complex discussions on subjects such as reincarnation and Taoist numerology. I often analyzed what Master said using the “profound and scientific” knowledge I had learned.
In the early days of my cultivation, Master allowed me to experience supernormal feelings that science could not explain. I felt Falun spinning in my abdomen, saw spinning swastikas through my third eye, and felt water dripping on my head when Master purified my body. Those sensations shattered my deep-rooted atheism and changed my mind about science.
When the persecution began in July 1999, many practitioners were not sure what to think about Falun Dafa—but not me. At that time, I frequently drove to New York and Washington, D.C., to participate in activities that exposed the persecution to the world and called on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to end the persecution. While driving, I often heard the mellow Dafa exercise music coming from another dimension. Once, I saw a great Dao standing so tall his head reached the sky. These experiences helped me to remove my human thinking.
Not long ago, a Western media outlet published articles slandering Shen Yun and Master Li. Youtubers, backed by the CCP, also attacked Shen Yun. I heard a practitioner say that we have to listen to both sides of the story before we can decide what is right. This judgment is made based on ordinary human logic and reasoning, which cannot be used to fathom the work we do in our Dafa initiatives.
Recently, I have been rereading “Teachings at the Conference in the Western U.S.” Master gave these teachings to a group of highly educated practitioners in 1999. I noticed that Master repeatedly discussed science and its flaws.
Master said:
It’s similar to the question of why humans can develop notions postnatally and why those notions can turn around and control man. If you don’t eliminate them, they will become part of you in this life, and may even become a part that dominates you. In other words, this cultural framework that aliens have imposed upon people on Earth has completely formed a set of methods for living and perceiving the material world; it has already become that way. So, once they have something like this in place, the kind of body I mentioned can be developed.” (“Teachings at the Conference in the Western U.S.”)
Master also talked about the old forces in the universe who tried to make us not believe in gods:
“They want to use human bodies and minds to preserve the wisdom of aliens. This is also a trouble, a difficulty, created for me at the lowest level of my Fa-rectification and saving people. So, while everything they have done is meant to help this undertaking, all of it, in fact, acts as an impediment. But the greatest harm it brings to mankind is the obstruction to people’s obtaining the Fa. This is especially evident in the disbelief in divine beings that is seen in modern science, as well as its negation of the traditional ways of thought and conduct of real human beings. These things are all obstacles to people obtaining the Fa.” (“Teachings at the Conference in the Western U.S.”)
We should work hard to negate atheism, which denies the existence of gods, and ordinary human notions that stem from the sciences. Doing so also negates the old forces’ arrangements.
In the later stages of my cultivation, I encountered several major tribulations. Scientific concepts unconsciously came to mind when I was eliminating karma, trying to make me believe that tribulations could be resolved by superficial human means that are based on science. Only by firmly believing in Dafa and thinking according to the Fa principles can we truly overcome tribulations.
