(Minghui.org) Many people have viewed the recent tariff escalations between the United States and China from the perspective of economic interests. To me, it goes beyond that. In fact, it is a battle of values between communist China and the free world represented by the U.S.

During the Cold War, the communist Eastern Bloc threatened and endangered the free world. Starting with the Nixon administration, however, the U.S. began to soften its stance toward communist China, which led to the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1979. Despite the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989, the U.S. continued to provide China with economic support and technology while ignoring the CCP’s human rights abuses. Bringing China into the World Trade Organization in 2001 further fueled the country’s growth and enabled the CCP to export its communist ideology and undermine the free world at an unprecedented rate.

The current tariff war with China is the strongest action I have seen the U.S. take to counter the CCP’s growth. While it may take time for the U.S. economy to recover and thrive again after cutting off its reliance on Chinese goods, such a separation is an inevitable and necessary step toward disintegrating the CCP. Only after the CCP falls will the Chinese people be able to jettison the Party’s twisted worldview and understand why China is increasingly isolated by much of the world today.

Since seizing power in 1949, the CCP has brainwashed its people with anti-U.S. propaganda disseminated in textbooks, literature, news, and entertainment. Where did such hatred come from? It started with the class struggle and violence espoused by the Communist Manifesto, and it grew through countless brutalities the CCP inflicted upon landlords, capitalists, and intellectuals in its political campaigns. The CCP’s anti-human nature then drove it to suppress the democratic movement in 1989 and Falun Gong practitioners who follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in 1999.

But many leaders in the U.S. and the rest of the world are unaware of the fundamental reasons behind the CCP’s tyranny. They assumed that economic growth would lead to political reform and a free society in China. Unfortunately, such wishful thinking failed again and again. Instead, it enabled China to become a global power that few countries are able to counter.

Many Chinese who have been brainwashed by CCP doctrines tend to side with the Party on essentially all issues–big or small–without exercising their own judgment. Rich or poor, living in China or abroad, those who see the world through the Party’s distorted values will find it difficult to understand normal societies’ attitudes toward China under the CCP.

The CCP’s top priority will always be its own survival and growth, not the survival and growth of the Chinese people. It dominates mankind by stirring up hatred and fear. Only by rejecting its ideology and supporting the countries that defend upright faiths like Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance can the world truly defeat the CCP, free other countries from its domination, and allow the people of China to create a free and just society.
