(Minghui.org) Minghui.org recently confirmed that a Xianning City, Hubei Province, resident has been admitted to the Fanjiatai Prison on October 23, 2024, to serve a three-year term for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Wu Yuxun, a 70-year-old retired employee of the Xian’an District Railway Freight Yard Transportation Administration, was arrested at the Xian’an District Train Station on the morning of August 29, 2023, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. He was first taken to the Yongan Police Station and then to the Xian’an District Lockup to serve a 14-day administrative detention. Instead of releasing him on September 12, the police gave him another 15-day criminal detention and took him to the Xian’an District Detention Center.

Min Jian, the deputy head of the Xian’an District Domestic Security Division, together with officer Yu Bing, delivered Mr. Wu’s formal arrest notice to his family on September 26, 2023.

Shortly after, the police submitted Mr. Wu’s case to the Xian’an District Procuratorate, which indicted him for “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to criminalize Falun Gong practitioners in China. The Xian’an District Court sentenced Mr. Wu to three years with a 3,000-yuan fine on December 8, 2023. His social security insurance was also suspended since January 18, 2024.

Mr. Wu appealed with the Xianning City Intermediate Court, which ruled on October 8, 2024 to uphold his original verdict without a hearing. He was transferred to the Fanjiatai Prison on October 23, 2024.

Past Persecution

Mr. Wu took up Falun Gong in 1998 and many of his ailments soon disappeared. In the past 26 years, he was arrested numerous times, held in brainwashing centers twice, and also served a two-year forced labor camp term. Both he and his family live in fear and under tremendous mental pressure.

Multiple Arrests

Mr. Wu was arrested on September 1, 2000, while distributing informational materials on the street. The police raided his home and took him to the Yongan Police Station. He was later admitted to the Maoershan First Detention Center and released in November 2000. The police extorted 1,800 yuan from him and he was also forced to pay 500 yuan as his living expense at the detention center.

Officer Xu Song of the Guanbuqiao Police Station suddenly visited Mr. Wu on February 9, 2001 and said that the police chief wanted to talk to him. Mr. Wu agreed to go with Xu, only to be taken to a brainwashing session.

Mr. Wu was arrested again around 11 p.m. one day in 2002, by chief Fan Zhong and officer Wang Tao of the Guanbuqiao Police Station. The police claimed that someone reported him for distributing Falun Gong materials and took him to the Maoershan First Detention Center. He was released on October 16, 2002.

Two-Year Forced Labor Camp Term

Mr. Wu’s next arrest was on the evening of October 13, 2003, after the police found him hanging up Falun Gong banners along the highway six days ago. He was first taken to the Guanbuqiao Police Station and then admitted to the Maoershan First Detention Center around midnight.

The police established a task force to interrogate Mr. Wu, attempting to find out who organized the activity and where he got the banners. The Xian’an District Reeducation Through Labor Committee gave Mr. Wu a two-year term at the Shayang Forced Labor Camp on December 19, 2003. He was subjected to intensive physical torture and brainwashing in the labor camp, aimed to force him to renounce Falun Gong.

Instigated by the guards, the inmates forced Mr. Wu to squat for long hours, sometimes on one leg, which caused excruciating pain in him and rendered him unable to straighten his back. The inmates also kicked him and hit him on the back.

Another torture was sleep deprivation. While he was not allowed to sleep, the inmates were divided into two shifts and they bombarded Mr. Wu non-stop with propaganda smearing Falun Gong. Ten days later, he was forced to attend more systematic brainwashing sessions.

In addition to the physical torture and brainwashing, Mr. Wu and other Falun Gong practitioners were also forced to work without pay, including shucking peanuts. They were so tired and kept sweating, yet the inmates watching them didn’t allow them to take a break before they finished the quota.

Mr. Wu was later taken to the “strict management” team after he wrote a letter to express his determination to continue practicing Falun Gong. The inmates forced him to squat for long hours again.
