(Minghui.org) Ms. Huang Lijun, 62, from Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, was sent to the Nantong City Women’s Prison in that province on March 21, 2025 to serve a two-year term for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Huang was arrested by officers from the Hushu Town Police Station on May 16, 2024, after she was reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her home was raided that afternoon. She was later sentenced to prison by the Yuhua District Court, but details about her prosecution aren’t clear.
This is the third time that Ms. Huang has been sentenced since the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline, in 1999.
She was first sentenced to three years in 2002. While serving time at the Nanjing City Women’s Prison, she wasn’t given toilet paper or enough to eat; yet the guards still forced her to stand for long hours or deprived her of sleep. They also tied her up in a metal bed for days, shocked her with electric batons and force-fed her after she held a hunger strike to protest the persecution.
The guards once beat Ms. Huang for hours, until she was on the verge of death and unable to move. Another time she lost consciousness after she was beaten. The guards thought she was dead and left her outdoors in the snow. She survived and crawled back to her cell after she regained consciousness.
Around July 2006, less than a year after Ms. Huang was released, she was arrested again. It’s not clear how long she was detained after this arrest.
Ms. Huang’s next arrest was on October 23, 2013. For two years, the police kept her family in the dark of her case status, and extorted 1,000 yuan from them every month. Only with the family’s strong demand did the Lishui District 610 Office tell them in August 2015 that she was sentenced to 3.5 years by the Gaochun District Court in December 2014 and that she was sent to the Nanjing City Women’s Prison.
