(Minghui.org) Two Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province residents have been detained since their arrests on August 21, 2024 for their faith in Falun Gong. Their families are kept in the dark of their detention locations and not given any updates about their cases.
Ms. Liu Yongying, 62, Ms. Wan Lihua, in her 50s, and two elderly women whose names weren’t known, were arrested on August 21, 2024 by officers from the Nanchang City Domestic Security Division, while studying the Falun Gong teachings together.
In addition to the four women, several other practitioners were arrested on August 21 and 22. According to insiders, the police monitored the targeted practitioners for months before making the arrests. Some of the practitioners were held at a local brainwashing center in Qingyunpu District for one week before being transferred to the Nanchang City Lockup.
As Ms. Liu and Ms. Wan’s families weren’t allowed to visit them, they couldn’t confirm where their loves ones are being detained. It’s also not clear whether the other two elderly practitioners are still detained at the time of writing.
Ms. Liu was a senior lecturer at Jiangxi Civil Administration School in Nanchang City. Before her latest persecution, she served two labor camp terms for a total of five years and a two-year prison term. After she was released from prison in 2020, her husband told her that the authorities had forced her school to fire her in May 2018, only one month after her arrest. She was also deprived of her right to pension payments after she reached retirement age in September 2018.
Ms. Wan took up Falun Gong in 2011. Simply for talking to people about the persecution, she was arrested on September 24, 2019 and sentenced to 3.5 years in August 2020. She was released from the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison in March 2023, only to be arrested again in less than two years.
