(Minghui.org) Ms. Tang Hengyan, 60, from Hengyang City, Hunan Province, was tried on April 15, 2025, with ten other local practitioners, for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

Ms. Tang was arrested around 7 p.m. on March 31, 2024, by agents from the Huancheng South Road Police Station and the Yanfeng District Police Department, including Lu Xuanliang, Zheng Xiang and Wang Li. Officers Lu and Qu Kun raided her place at 8 p.m., and confiscated her laptops, tablets, flash drive, TF card, CDs, cell phone, MP4 player, and Falun Gong books and informational materials.

Prior to her arrest, Ms. Tang was monitored by the authorities for a long time. Staffers of the local residential committee and 610 Office repeatedly harassed her and tried to make her renounce Falun Gong.

The police revealed that they arrested Ms. Tang after discovering she recently met with another local practitioner, Ms. Fu Huilan, who was also under police surveillance for working with other practitioners to submit audio and video files to zhengjian.org (a website run by Falun Gong practitioners outside of China).

The police asked Ms. Tang if she was acquainted with Ms. Fu, how they got to know each other, if she visited Ms. Fu at home, and the arrangement of her home. They also asked her questions about her practicing Falun Gong, such as, “If you think practicing Falun Gong can improve health, have you introduced it to others?” “You have so many Falun Gong books. Are you planning to give them out or read it together with others?” and “Falun Gong teaches Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance; have you been truthful in answering our questions?”

Ms. Tang refused to cooperate with the police and said that she didn’t do anything wrong by practicing Falun Gong.

The Yanfeng District Police Department put Ms. Tang on criminal detention the next day. Her arrest was approved by the Zhengxiang District Procuratorate on May 7. The police submitted her case to the procuratorate on July 5 and she was indicted on September 30, 2024. She was tried by the Zhengxiang District Court on April 15, 2025, and is now awaiting a verdict.

Ms. Tang, born in October 1964, suffered a concussion in a car accident when she was in her 20s. After that, she had stabbing headaches in the spring. After she took up Falun Gong in 1997, she gradually regained her health. After her employer, the Hengyang Cotton Mill, went out of business in 2003, she made a living as a housekeeper.

Ms. Tang was arrested on May 18, 2003, for talking to people about Falun Gong. The Hengyang County Police Department detained her at the Hengyang County Detention Center for 20 days.
