(Minghui.org) Following their arrests two months ago, a husband and wife in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, are being prosecuted for their faith in Falun Gong. The husband is now facing indictment and the wife, who has been out on bail due to a severe medical condition, was recently interrogated at home. The police didn’t leave until she had a seizure.
Binhe Police Station officers followed Mr. Chi Enhong, 76, home on April 16, 2025. They confiscated his printers, laptops, Falun Gong books, and informational materials. They also attempted to seize his wife, Ms. Zhang Yuqing, 75. When she resisted, they threatened to jail her husband if she didn’t go to the police station to verify the confiscated items. She ended up going with them and was forced to fingerprint a document that she was not allowed to read.
The police took Ms. Zhang for a physical exam that night and returned her to the same hospital the next morning for further tests. This time they discovered she had a serious medical condition and released her on bail. The police ordered her family to keep her at home and threatened to arrest them if she went out.
Mr. Chi was admitted to the Fangjialan Detention Center on April 17, 2025. He remains there to this day.
A Binhe Police Station officer called the couple’s daughter after 3 p.m. on June 16, 2025, and ordered her to bring her mother to them at 7:30 p.m. that night. The daughter went to the police station alone at the scheduled time. At 8 p.m. chief Zhao Xudong and another officer (badge 116394) broke into the daughter’s home, where Ms. Zhang had been staying.
Ms. Zhang was in bed due to her medical condition. The police turned on their body-cam and allowed only her daughter to remain in the room. When they tried to interrogate Ms. Zhang, she refused to answer any questions or sign any statements to renounce Falun Gong. The police wrote “She didn’t say a word” in their records.
Chief Zhao threatened to give Ms. Zhang a heavy sentence if she refused to cooperate and accused her of “colluding with overseas forces” because he had received calls from Falun Gong practitioners outside of China, calling for her husband’s release.
Ms. Zhang then suddenly went into uncontrollable spasms. The police turned off their body-cam and left.
Mr. Chi was issued a formal arrest warrant at an unknown time and is facing indictment, likely by the Dadong District Procuratorate.
