(Minghui.org) Throughout the 27 years I cultivated I felt I had an attachment I couldn’t let go of, and it seemed to subtly control me. Cultivation is done unconditionally, and any benefits we receive are gained naturally without pursuit. If one practices with conditions, it can become an obstacle on our cultivation paths.
Master said, “There is no precondition for cultivation, and one should cultivate if one wants to.” (Lecture One, Zhuan Falun)
There were times when I was diligent and other times I was not. After years of reciting the Fa and looking inward, I realized that I cultivated with pursuit. I began practicing Falun Dafa because I was sick. Deep down, I desired a happy life in the human world. Things did not go as planned. My cultivation path turned out to be much more challenging than I imagined. Especially when I was faced with family challenges, I struggled and did not do well.
I sometimes thought about the Tibetan Buddhist master Milarepa. His master assigned him difficult tasks to test him. He was instructed to move rocks, build a house, tear it down, and then rebuild it. Milarepa completed these tasks without complaint or expecting anything, and he was able to achieve enlightenment.
I realized that when we face tribulations, if we can take it lightly, it means we have grown and passed the test.
Master said,
“In providing salvation to humankind, the Buddha School does not attach any condition or seek returns, and it will help unconditionally.” (Lecture One, Zhuan Falun)
In order to save the universe, Master taught the Fa without conditions; in order to save sentient beings, he unconditionally took on their countless sins. We cultivate in order to return to our heavenly home so how can we still hold onto any “conditions”?
If we as cultivators want to have a future and achieve success in cultivation, we can only move toward the future by unconditionally accepting Dafa, aligning ourselves with the requirements during Fa-rectification, and assimilating to Dafa.
This is my personal understanding. Please point out anything inappropriate.
