(Minghui.org) A 78-year-old woman in Qujing City, Yunnan Province, was admitted to the Yunnan Province Second Women’s Prison on May 15, 2025, to serve a three-year term for her faith in Falun Gong.

The wrongful conviction of Ms. He Zeying, born on November 9, 1946, and a retired power company worker, stemmed from her arrest on July 10, 2023, when she was using her cell phone to send out text messages exposing the persecution of Falun Gong at a fair. Several strong-built officers seized her and stuffed her into their cruiser.

After arriving at the Nanning Police Station, the police stripped Ms. He’s coat and pants to search her. Another group of officers used the key found in her coat to open her door and raid her home. No one was around to witness the raid, and Ms. He later learned that her Falun Gong books and music player were confiscated. She refused to sign the interrogation records.

The police took Ms. He to the Qujing City Fifth Hospital the next day for a physical examination. She was found to have high blood pressure and denied admission to the Qujing City Detention Center. She was then released on a one-year bail.

Ms. He received a formal arrest warrant notice in June 2024 and a trial notice from the Qilin District Court on June 14. She appeared in court on July 4, 2024, and was let go after the hearing.

Ms. He received her verdict on August 14, 2024. She was sentenced to three years and fined 6,000 yuan. The next day officer Gong Yuanjiang from the Qilin District Police Department took her to the Qujing City Fifth Hospital for a physical examination and a doctor warned that she was seriously ill. Although Gong drove her home that night, he came back the next morning and took Ms. He to the Qujing City Detention Center. With her systolic pressure being 170 mmHg (a normal range is 120 mmHg or lower), the detention center doctor refused to take her and urged the police to take her for medical treatment.

The local intermediate court ruled in October 2024 to uphold Ms. He’s original verdict. Clerk Liu Jiao from the Qilin District Court called her on October 22 to pick up the verdict. She said she couldn’t because her 85-year-old husband was hospitalized for severe pulmonary obstruction.

When Ms. He finally got a chance to pick up her verdict from the Jianning Police Station on October 28, 2024, officer Wen from the Qilin District Police Department came to take her for a physical examination. A bit past 8:00 am the next morning, Wen and a woman officer surnamed Yang came to her home and took her for another physical examination.

As Ms. He had not returned home around noon, her husband called the police to inquire about the situation. Officer Yang said the couple’s son had been notified to pick Ms. He up. She returned home after 1 p.m. that day and took a long nap. After she got up after 4 p.m., she finally had energy to tell her husband what had happened during the physical examination: the doctors collected her blood sample and gave her an MRI scan; she felt her heart was exploding, and she was extremely dizzy. The next thing she knew was that her son was there to pick her up. He said she passed out and was resuscitated.

Ms. He’s son received a call on May 5, 2025, asking him to take his mother to the Jianning Police Station. They went, and the police ordered Ms. He to write a statement to admit her guilt. She refused because no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong. The police then took her for a physical examination. It is unclear what the results were, but they drove her to the Qujing City Detention Center right afterward. She was transferred to the Yunnan Province Second Women’s Prison ten days later.
