(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old woman in Huai’an County, Hebei Province, was sentenced to three years and four months by a court in Shaanxi Province for her faith in Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.
While visiting her son in Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province, Ms. Han Jinhua hung Falun Gong information on doorknobs in a residential area. A resident saw her from his doorbell camera and reported her to the police.
Officers from the Lianhu District Police Station in Xi’an City traveled over 600 miles to Huai’an County, Hebei Province, on August 30, 2024, to arrest Ms. Han, who had returned home by that time. They took her back to Shaanxi and put her in the Lianhu District Detention Center.
The Lianhu District Second Procuratorate indicted Ms. Han on an unknown date and forwarded her case to the Lianhu District Court in late November 2024.
Ms. Han was tried on January 22, 2025. Her lawyer received a notice in mid-July 2025 that she had been sentenced to three years and four months. Her family is now appealing the wrongful conviction on her behalf.
This is not the first time that Ms. Han has been targeted for her faith, which she took up in February 1999 and credits for curing her neurosis, stomach problems, cholecystitis, gastroptosis, pharyngitis, gynecological issues, and other ailments. After the communist regime started the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Han held firm to her faith and was repeatedly targeted.
In 2002, Ms. Han’s employer, the Huai’an County Transportation Bureau, reported her to the Huai’an County 610 Office for practicing Falun Gong. The 610 Office started a brainwashing session on April 17 that year to specifically target Ms. Han and two other local practitioners.
Ms. Han went into hiding and returned home on May 7, 2002. In less than a week, the 610 Office again attempted to take her to the brainwashing session. She had to live away from home again, only to be arrested in neighboring Shangyi County on May 13, 2002. They restrained her in a metal chair and tortured her. Her husband was forced to pay 10,000 yuan in exchange for her release the next day.
Ms. Han’s employer suspended her pay beginning on April 17, 2002, giving her a stipend of less than 300 yuan per year. Her employer also dispatched people to monitor her around holidays or anniversaries related to Falun Gong to prevent her from raising awareness about the persecution.
Ms. Han went to Shuangtun Village in Huai’an County on June 25, 2008, and ran into officers from the Xishacheng Township Police Station, who were in the process of arresting another practitioner, Yong (alias). Chief Zhang Wanfu accused Ms. Han of distributing Falun Gong informational materials with Yong and seized her.
The two practitioners were interrogated separately at the police station. Chief Zhang lied to Yong, claiming that Ms. Han had accused him.
Zhang next called the Huai’an County Police Department. Officer Zhang Bin and other officers raided Ms. Han’s home. They confiscated all her Falun Gong books and portrait of Falun Gong’s founder.
Ms. Han was held at the police station until 11 p.m. on June 25, 2008. Her husband was later forced to pay 4,000 yuan. The police also pressured her employer and her husband to monitor her and promise to not let her distribute Falun Gong materials again.
